Default I might take an Improv class

has anyone here done that? would you recommend taking an introductory acting class first? (the improv class is also intro).

i'm going to take some dance classes later down the line, and cooking too. i'm a real renaissance man.

Michelangelo licked his lips while sculpting David's dick.

Lots of times. Michelangelo was a man with very chapped lips. Legend has it that his lips would get so dry that they'd regularly flake off, and Michelangelo, in the creative dervish that usually overtook him during major projects, would simply paint over them without noticing. It's alleged that beneath the veneer of the Sistine Chapel walls is a secret map in lip-flakes that marks the location of Michelangelo's collection of magical cockrings, which Jason of Greek mythology -- widely held to be the first incarnation of Sandra Bernhardt -- once found on a world-spanning quest with his Argonauts. When aligned just so, the cockrings are supposed to be able to blanket the globe in a pall of everlasting peace. At least, that's what Dan Brown says in his meticulously researched new work of fictionalized non-fiction, HAHA I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU BOUGHT THIS AT THE AIRPORT BOOKSTORE I'M RICHER THANKS TO YOUR DUMB ASS.

P.S. I would never take an improv class, or any class requiring me to perform, because I don't know how to emote. When they read the guilty verdict at my murder trial, the jury thought my lawyers had replaced me with a lifelike mannequin so that the real me could make his get-away. They didn't know that trapped beneath that stony jaw and those blase eyebrows was a man weeping for his lost youth.

that sounds great. I've done improv when I was in Quebec and I was taking Drama classes. I don't really remember being taught much, even though it was an introductory course, I guess. I think it really depends on how shy and how creative you are. I know I had a lot of fun. so I don't know if I'd recommend an introductory course or not, you should maybe ask to watch/participate in an intermediate level class and see how you feel, and decide what level you want to take from then on.

to renaissance men, btw

you poor thing. i am trembling with compassion just from reading that tale. i can emote enough for the both of us, and it's sure to rub off on you. take the class with me and it won't be long before you're a bunch of raw nerve endings crying out just like myself.

I'm on my high school's Comedy Sportz team. We do stuff kind of like Who's Line Is It Anyway? Anyway, improv in front of an audience isn't for everyone, but as far as a class, it would be a great experience for you. It really helps you focus and concentrate under pressure by allowing you to center on your character, something that would be especially helpful in the business world. And hey, who knows, maybe you'll take a shine to performing arts and move in that direction.

i was on the improve team at school for a while, untill i got sick fo the guy in charge and stopped going.. you don't need acting experience at all, you just need to be ready to have fun and let aside any inhibitions you have. it's all about having fun.

every thursday night we'd meet and it was the best time.. i'd leave so much happier, and having laughed the entire time

Your ability to act and your ability to do improv are two entirely different things. In the drama department, I know some people who are great at improv but don't act very well. Then there are others like myself, who do fine with acting, but stink up an improv room.

So if improv is really your interest, you should be fine without acting classes first. Then if you find you enjoy the acting/creating a character side of it, acting classes and community theatre are always there.

there's a local improv place i used to go to way too often. they offer classes and i've considered it, but snarky one liners are my style and i'd be afraid to stink up the place
