okay. i know i don't belong at this particular part of the forums because i really don't involve myself in politics at all. however, play for change really bothers me. do musicians really think they have the power to make a change in the swing states? are kids really gonna say "oh well my morning jacket likes kerry so i will too?" it bothers me. just play your fucking guitar and shut up.

the argument about celebrities using their celebrity for politcal purposes is so steeped in bullshit and fallacy, its hard to even find where to begin. i think this is one of those huge topics like abortion or gun control or whatever, but much less serious.
im for them doing that, though its important to note its not just them saying it, its the media reporting it. im kinda interested in why the media reports on the opinions of some of them at all, especially since most are often totally b-list. you watch cnn or whatever and all of a sudden following a report on a tornado or something real, "x celebrity says he doesnt like president bush." i always thought that was stupid. when was that ever non-entertainment tonight news? |

I guess I don't see the affect so much as people going "Oh, Michael Stipe hates Bush, I'm voting Kerry," as the concerts raising alot of money for efforts that will try and get people to vote Kerry, or get the vote out or whatever.
