Either there's a typo in there, or I just don't follow what you're trying to say.

i fixed it. i understand it might be difficult for some to conclude that "domputing" was actually meant to say "computing."

Actually when I use my laptop and take a crap at the same time, I call it "dumputing."

Do you mean something like SETI@Home or whatever that's called? I dunno if it still exists, but I used to do that one back in the day. It was my screen saver.

not necessarily with seti, but are there some where you can adjust the bandwith or resources you let it use? but instead of down, i mean up. i was reading and most of them say that it only takes x tiny amount of bandwith per month or whatever, and i was thinking while im at work or sleeping i can just let it use everything or whatever. is that common?

i dunno. for bandwidth, it shouldn't really take much at all. you're downloading these work packets, and they take quite a bit of time to get completed and sent back. i'd imagine that the programs only talk to the server a few times a day, which really ought to be a tiny amount of bandwidth.

as for dedicating a designated fraction of your cpu cycles - i don't know that either . the distributed computing forum over at the anandtech forums might be able to better inform you.
