Default Flooding in Peterborough

Pretty crazy stuff.
How is the flood treating you Brandon? and anyone else from there....
there was an obviously staged picture in the paper today with a girl floating on a tube, heh.

You know, after two days, you're the only one to even post on this subject. heh. My own mother didn't even call until last night! haha. Things are better now, although they haven't lifted the state of emergency yet. There were some posed pictures of people tubing, but there were also people canoeing and stuff just to get around. It was pretty unreal. Far worse than the flood we had two years ago. Some people had no choice but to float down the streets on the roofs of their cars.

On the noon Global News from Toronto on Thursday, they did a report from the corner by my work. The guy was showing the damage at Brock St. between Aylmer and Bethune Sts. I live on Bethune St, but about five blocks north of where that damage happened, and luckily the store I work at is on higher ground. Furthermore, my house is at the top of a glacial drumlin, so no water damage here, either. Lots of people are in serious trouble still, though. I saw some houses that have six feet of water in their basements.

Even though the worst of the flood is over, there's still a lot of work to be done. Thanks for mentioning it, though.

It's crazy- I was just up there looking at universities (Trent) and now I see that half the place is underwater.

Hope everything is okay.

Haha, I just realized that the flood occurred on the second anniversiary of the DAY I REGISTERED AT NETPHORIA!

EDIT: By the way, Trent is a great school. I'm a graduate of the place, and I think I turned out ok.

netphorian anniversaries.

anyway, about Trent, I bet it is a great school. A friend of mine who goes to York took an Archaeology course this summer, organized by Trent and held in... Belize. I saw some of the pictures he took there, and they were wonderful. yay Trent.

edit: not to be completely off topic....it's scary how Peterborough was flooded and downtown Toronto it barely rained that day.

My brother is going to Trent University in the fall and staying in the downtown residence. I hope they are able to clean things up by then.

Well, in the four and a half years I went there, no one committed suicide (EDIT: That I know of. . .). I heard that statistic too, and the statistic that Trent has more gay people than any other university in Ontario and that we all smoke weed and wear Birkenstocks. . . People at my high school who didn't like me told me I'd be a "dead hippie fag" for going to Trent. Whatever.

Oh, and Brad, the downtown campus (assuming you're talking about Catherine Parr Trail College) is two blocks south and one block west from where I live. . . on the hill. It's fine! It was also my college affiliation when I went there.

In fact, Trent as a whole is fine because it's so far north of the city it's actually out in the country. They had no problems north of the city.

EDIT again: Well, I guess it's not *totally* fine, but they've already reopened, and they're just replacing some carpets and cleaning some offices and whatnot. It sounds like for the most part it's ok up there.

Sweet! It's nice to hear that people that went to Trent like it. I'm really considering going- it seemed really cool and laid back, and the setting was gorgeous.

And Peterborough seems like a cool town.
