Default this year's hip hop releases

admit it, it's been a pretty lack-lustre year so far. apart from Madvillainy, College Dropout and The Pretty Toney Album.

Looks like it might speak to me, the guy writing that thing is saying all the right names Wu, Mobb Deep, Nasty Nas.

I didn't know there was a hip hop act named Dalek. That's nerdtacular.

Don't forget the Illmatic reissue. I still haven't heard if it's worth picking up though.

I hope the Wu returns. I'm tired of seeing Method Man on stuff like Ryan Seacrest.

well, it's definitely worth picking up for people who don't have Illmatic, but if you have it already, i don't really think so.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

If this is your first time hearing this
You are about to experience something cold man
We never had nothing handed took nothing for granted
Took nothing from no man, man i'm my own man
But as a shorty i looked up to the dopeman
Only adult man i knew that wasnt a broke man
Flickin starter coats man, Man you ount no man
We don't care what people say
This is for my niggas outside all winter
Cuz this summer they aint finna to say
next summer im finna
Sittin in the hood like community colleges
This dope money here is Lil Treys scholarship
Cause aint no to tuition for havin no ambition
And aint no loans for sittin your ass at home
So we forced to sell crack rap and get a job
You gotta do something man your ass is grown

i bought kanye west's new CD and it's good, like the second song "we don't care" and all the obvious songs but there's way too many interludes. his name is said like 100 times and i find that irritating.

yeah, what's up with method man on ryan seacrest and even worse, redman collaborating with christina aguilera? yuck.

the new slum village album is good, all the shit the roots have done lately is good.... but not really much else. oh and the new rakim album.

Their show on fox is basically them invading the suburbs and scaring square white people. So I'm wondering if they really think white people would be scared of them when they appear on Ryan Seacrest. I mean they were on after Mandy Moore for god's sake.

They're a minsterel show without even knowing it.

Pitchfork reviewed it today and gave it a bad review, Nick Sylvester just doesn't get digi-hiphop. good thing he didn't try to review the Shadow Huntaz record. he's kind of right about the forgetable raps, but the production is great. anyway, it's still much better than the Postal Service.

Kanye West's "The College Dropout" is one of my favourite albums of 2004. I only recently took it off my CD rotation.

Just the idea behind "Through the Wire" is inspired enough but that the actual song matches the idea makes it a standout track. Yeah the skits like Fugees "The Score" and Outkast "SB/LB" get annoying after repeat listens - why do they do this crap.... (except for the 1st skit after We don't dare/care - "what da fuck was that Kanye ?!?!" haha). I even like Jay-Z in "Never Let me down".

anyhoo, here's the "video" for the song "Two Words" (f/ Mos Def). I enjoyed it. You need Quicktime to view it.

The Murs album is OK. The rhymes are kind of stale, your average slapping-bitches-fucking-hos stuff for the most part, but Little Brother's production is top-notch.

I think Kanye's skits fall flat and so do his general attempts at humor. He's talented, but he's not that funny, and I also feel he lacks personality. I wish that didn't ruin the album for me but it does.

I know what you mean, Lie. Like that Kanye's Workout Plan Song? That song sucks bad enough, so what does he do? He put a second version of it on the album! I do like the album but the absence of 10 or so skits and shit songs and 10 more solid songs would be a huge improvement.

I think the best album in a long time (it actually came out in 2003, not 2004) is RZA's (Wu-Tang, if you don't know) Birth of a Prince. It's very creative and all around a spectacular album.
