Best way to ship a guitar?

I'm moving across country in a few weeks and want to bring my acoustic. I have a hard shell case, a cardboard box to put it in, and I'll buy some styrofoam peanuts or something.

Would you check it in as luggage on the plane, or get some other delivery service to take it? Is the cargo hold of a plane too cold for a guitar to last several hours?

i'd go with a BIG padded envelope.
