i need some advice real quick.
i am supposed to start a new job today at 4pm. it's 12:30 pm and i have the flu. i've been sick since saturday night, or so. my nose is all snotty and i am coughing up all this chunky flem. my ears are clogged, too. it's really gross. anyway- should i go into my new job today anyway, even though i'm sick, and then just wait for my new boss to say something? or should i call him and tell him that i'm sick (he will surely hear it in my voice), and see what he says then? i don't want to seem like i'm flakey- i don't want to lose this new job, it's an easy one and the pay isn't bad. plus i got it through my friend and i don't want her to look bad, too. am i tripping over nothing? what should i do? |

dayquil and a nice hot shower. what do you do? maybe they will send you home... want some soup or tea?!
but you should really go, i mean if they see the dedication, when you do call in sick...maybe they'll think geez he/she really is sick. |

i think showing up in person will mitigate most suspicion of flakiness, will undoubtedly prove how sick you are, and show the boss you care about the job. if he has a heart, and sees how sick you are, he'll tell you to feel better and come in the next day.. is it a job where your being sick can get someone else sicks? edit: i'm agreeing when people are saying go.. UNLESS it's a resturaunt job or something. that pisses me off so much when there's a sick fucker in there all up in my food. if it's not such a job, i guess the others are right, suck it up and go. |

it's a small place. probably family run but they hire outsiders, obviously. it's not a franchise or anything. but the pay is 9$ an hour plus tips, and it's an evening job. i love evening jobs.
the one good thing is that today is the day 'm supposed to train, so he won't need to replace me if he decides i should go home, on the other hand, he will have to replace me tomorrow. but maybe i should still go in early anyway. |

yeah, when i first got hired at my first job i got a hella bad sinus infection like a week later and my boss is a capricorn and a no nonsense guy with eyes in the back of his head, seriously. he's wonderful but he's a slave driver, which i have npo propblem with but i just went in and he saw me and told me to go. he gets his ass reamed or his business fined or shut down if the health department finds out about this kind of shit.
just go in early. it'll seem sincere. no one has time to answer the damn phone in restaurants anyway ![]() |

You'd be surprised how often that happens. I've had to really bitch if I was actually sick so they wouldn't make me come in. Restaraunt managers don't give a shit. Although, I will admit that that was only the first time I called in when I was actually sick. The place I worked at the manager was a big pussy and he wouldn't fire anyone. As soon as I figured that out I called in whenever I felt like it. Sometimes without an excuse. Terrible, I know but I'm not a good person. |

but jesus christ, the telemarketing place had no air conditioning and the toilets weren't working all summer cause they were moving the location and were too cheap to fix it. it was unjust. my boss didn't give a shit though, he was a friend of mine. that's always good. but at every place i've ever worked at, they don't care how foten i call in sick because i still get the most work done. |

I usually get the least work done since I really can't care less about keeping a gas station up and running, or whatever menial job I may be doing at that time. Friend of mine used to do the whole telemarketing gig. He would offer most of his hours so the workaholics would take his shift. He worked like 20 hours a month or something and made ends meet. He got fired for being on AIM at work though. |
