Unhappy Chiropractors..

so umm i was at work the other day, and in the mall they had these chiropractors trying to drum up business by giving free exams. I kept thinking "Do not go over there do NOT go because they're just going to exaggerate to get you to come into their office and actually pay them." But iw ent anyway because my yoga teacher told me I have scoliosis so I wanted to see if this was true and could be the cuase of my migraines. the dude looked me over and did stuff and said that i had a twisted upper back that was pinching a nerve and was thus causing the occasional migraine when stress or other factors piled on top of it. he said 6-10 visits SHOULD fix it. ha.

Now, this is something I kind of want to look into. Migraines and headaches are a part of my life now. Not with this guy at first, because he could just be exaggerating and why he was even in the MALL to get clients seems fishy to me. But how do i go about picking a chiropractor? And how much should I be paying for each visit? Anyone had good/bad experiences?

Try going to your family doctor and having him check out your back, see what he reccomends. They'll take some X-rays, maybe an MRI and then they'll give you your options.

hmm. so they can't actually straighten out my spine like he said he could? I thought it sounded too good to be true... who knows. I, like you, hold them at arms length. i feel they are the lawyers of the physician world.

i've been plagued with serious neck/shoulder problems (including headaches) for a few years now. when it first started to bother me i spent almost five grand (and that's with my health insurance covering their share) trying to figure out why i was constantly in pain. i saw several orthopedic doctors and a neurosurgeon and had cortisone shots and took massive amounts of pain killers and they still couldn't figure out what to do with me(and i was in so much pain that i couldn't even undress myself). i went to a chiropractor twice a week for over a year and i would get immediate relief that lasted for a day (sometimes not even that long) and then i would be in excruciating pain all over again until my next visit. he told me that i had scoliosis and that the only way to deal with it was to see him continually for the duration of my life. eventually my condition went into a sort of remission and i ceased seeking out any medical assistance(mostly out of frustration). then a couple months ago it started up again and my general physician ordered an MRI which confirmed his diagnosis of spinal stenosis(basically a compression of nerves and a disc right at the base of my skull). now i have the option of surgery to correct the problem so that i don't have to deal with flare ups every so often. i think that you should ask your doctor to order an MRI. hopefully you have insurance because it's a very pricey procedure. your doctor will be able to determine from the MRI exactly what your problem is and hopefully it can be corrected. seriously a chiropractor (IMO) is a bad way to go. they offer temporary relief but really don't fix the problem.
