Red face FUCK YES! Phillies land Thome!

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1202/1470010.html

Dear Jim,

I apologize for anything rude I might have said about you when it seemed that you might be turning us down. I am now your number one fan. With your help, the Phillies will put the Braves in their place and put a stranglehold on the NL East. Thank you for coming to Philly. I look forward to watching you hit the shit out of the ball.

Mark

P.S. - Don't forget to call up Tommy Glavine and tell him that it would be a really good idea for him to sign with us too. Thanx.

Hey Braves fans, it's pretty late. Do you know where your chances of winning the division are? Heh.

Don't be so delusional, LeDrew. I know you're a Nintendork, but even you can understand that one or two players does not equal a Divisional Championship. Just ask the Mets, who went out and landed a bit more than "one or two players" in their attempt to dethrone the Braves.

Dear Mark,

Thank you for taking the time to write me a nice letter. I am so happy to know that my biggest fan (you) just happens to live in Philly! I know that I could have stayed in Cleveland, where I am loved by thousands of fans, have this huge network of family and friends that I've built up over 15 years, and have become a team leader on and off the field. But even though I've already made tens of millions of dollars in my career, I felt that the extra couple million a year was worth it to fuck over my huge legion of Cleveland fans, fuck over the Indians after they tried hard to get me back, fuck up my family by dragging them hundreds of miles away from their friends and neighbors, and totally fucking up my chance to become the greatest Indian ever!
I mean, sure I know that you and the rest of Philadelphia doesnt give a shit about me as a person and only "loves" me because I can hit the shit out of the ball, and I know that I'll get booed everytime I have an off night which is something that never happened in Cleveland.....but this...this extra couple of million a year was sooo important....like i just HAD to have it....so that i can go out and buy some more hunting rifles and even bigger boats and airplanes than I already own!! Money is the most important thing, even more important than God Himself. Don't ever forget that, Mark. So see you around the new ballpark soon.

Love,

Jim

Ha. That was cute. The difference in dollars is thought to be $30 million, more if the option year kicks in. That's hardly chump change even for a guy whose already making a shitload of cash. What if he decides to take that extra 30 mill and start a new charity with it? Then would he be such a bad guy? I don't think Thome will be "fucking up" his family by moving them to Philly. There are a lot of nice places to live out on the Main Line or in South Jersey. Lots of families move. As for the Indians fans, well frankly I don't really give a shit about them. They'll get over it. I think Thome's hard nosed, workman-like approach will be much appreciated by Philadelphians, a decidedly hard working, blue collar bunch of folks themselves. Sure they'll boo when he does poorly. It's just their way. Jim's a big boy. I think he can handle it.

Oh, and I do look forward to seeing you around the new ballpark Jim!

You are excited because you overpaid for a one dimensional 1st baseman who will need to DH in a few years & have to adjust to national league pitching which is no easy task for any player switching leagues.

Yep I'd crown the Phillies NL East champs

Y'all a big bunch of playa hatas.

53 homeruns, 118 RBIs. You're right, this guy sucks. What was i thinking? We should have gotten at least 3 or 4 dimensions for all that money.

Thumbs down

i think our town has quite the trend as of late of building up great hitters, then losing them :\

I wouldn't give a shit if we were losing them in trades and not in free agency. Seriously, did Cleveland REALLY think that Thome was going to be more influenced by the non-financial aspects of the decision?

Remember what happened to Griffey, Jr. He was a better player than Thome ever was, both offensively and all-around... then he signed with the Reds.
