ideas on how to stay away from someone you care about?

ok,

i just broke up with my girlfriend because we go to college far away from each other. she can't handle the distance and i guess it makes sense. i still love her a lot. we got in an argument on sunday, and i told her i couldnt see her again.
i don't want to live with the "we'll just be friends" deal. i dont like that, it would be torture for me.

so what do i do? find another girlfriend at school i suppose, but any other ideas. has anyone ever had a similar situation, where everything inside you is telling you to call them or email and try to make it work but you know it's hopeless and should stay away?

and AIM is a another whole story. it's REALLY hard to ignore that name.

3. Lend to buddies at school.

4. She will find it on the internet in no time and will stop talking to you.
