from IGN.com:
Nintendo of America today announced that its GameCube exclusive first-person adventure title Metroid Prime has sold through 250,000 units since its release November 18. According to the company, Prime continues to sell at a rate approximately 50 percent higher than Microsoft's Xbox Live Online service package, which debuted at the same time and for the same retail price. Sales of the mature-rated Resident Evil 0 have also been solid, according to the company. The strong reception of both games has pushed GameCube into number-two for system sales during the month of November. Nintendo said that it expects combined sales of more than 500,000 units between Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 0 by the time the holiday weekend comes to a close. "While Nintendo retains its legacy as the destination of choice for family gamers, we're also making substantial inroads with more mature players," said Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. "Both of these games are selling through at rates well beyond any game launched this year for Microsoft Xbox, which is skewed almost exclusively at older players." While comparing Metroid Prime game sales with the sell-through of a broadband-only online gaming package is comparing apples to oranges (a comparison to sales of Splinter Cell or Mech Assault would have been more appropriate), the renewed enthusiasm could be the important first step into an older gaming market for Nintendo. |

How many copies have been sold of some of the most popular games? And which games are they? I would like to see this information.

Whoa, cool. I like to see GC do well. But I think their eagerness to get to the PS2/XBox age group is really pretty sad. Nintendo of America should not be airing those 'What a Rush' commercials. It really just hurts Nintendo's image. Stick with single game commercials, they seem to be of okay calibre. Actually, I think the Metroid commercial is pretty cool, as is the the RE0.

I love Nintendo though, I would definitely buy a Gamecube over Xbox or PS2. |

Not PSX though. Some commercials were cool, like Final Fantasy, but the system selling commercials themselves were awful. Leeching off of mid-90's MTV style so that teenagers would buy their console over the 'kiddy' Saturn was just bad. They looked like bad pop music videos, and are half of the reason why I eventually got an N64. |

I heard rumors that the GameCube might have a further price drop after Christmas, any truth to that?

Xbox and PS2 are already at the bottom ot the barrell on their prieces. They arent making money off the systems selling at that price and recently both have been offering two games with the system to try and boost sales and there are STILL rumors of them dropping prices after christmas (to the 150-175 range). If they do that nintendo will drop their system down to cost and just bank off the games. If the nintendo goes down any further they will likely ruin xbox on sales and hurt ps2 severely |

I'll probably end up buying a GameCube sometime in the new year, I'll wait a little while to see if the price drop happens.
