What's weird to read is how he started out feeling like, super-connected and super-obligated towards establishing personal fan interactions. (It comes across as very sweet in a way, but also very naive.) I guess he got too close too the fire and got burnt too many times to keep up that type of interaction. Not to mention that is was unrealistic to maintain that type of relationship once MCIS blew up in the mainstream.
When I read this article over a decade ago, I must say I read it with a much different perspective than I have now--I was very impressed with the effort Billy put into these relationships. Now I suspect that he may have just been courting fans in the way he's court a young, attractive girl--so insecure in his attachments and so starving for the unconditional love and affection he never had, so willing to woo them by any means necessary just to keep them around and keep them connected to him.
