nah he just thinks others should be impressed (cause he's naive) so he talks about like it is and you're a fool. lots of people like gang of four, me first and gimme gimmes, the clash, joy division, and whatever mainstream "post-punk" he is into. just not everyone needs their back patted for it.
you're not a true punk until you can appreciate the carpenters. punk isn't a set of notes. it's a state of mind.
