It took a few years for that transition to really occur and I still have slip ups here and there.

That's an excellent point, thanks. It's kind of what I've been realizing too. I use alcohol as a crutch and lately its' been an escape and it's no way to be. I think back to when I started and it was celebrating the moment. There was a fundamental difference.

I quit for a bit earlier in the summer, but then drank for fun occasions and before I knew it I was drinking every day again. So I guess just trying to find a healthy balance is going to be the difficult part. I think in time I can swing it though.
