There's an old quote where he tries to explain the way he writes lyrics, and he says something to the end of he finds literal storytelling to fall short of conveying what he wants. Sometimes it's not enough to say it fucking hurts, and that's essentially why he uses abstract phrases and imagery.
Very reminiscent of the Geek lyrics. Like he's trying to explain these things he is feeling and is coming up with all these "idioms", but ultimately fuck it cause WORDS CANT DEFINE WHAT I FEEL INSIDE CAUGHT WITH THIS VIRUS OF MY MIND I GIVE IN TO MY DISEASE
