Yeah man, it's certainly baffling. It's not like Jack Bates is an in demand musician. They could have paid him to be on retainer and he'd happily accept. With reunions like this you really just have to roll the dice and take a chance. The unpredictability can be a big selling point for shows like this.
Having the original 4 just makes such a big difference in the promotional realm. The buzz would have been insane. It would have justified the insane ticket prices, but to charge that kind of money for the Manson tour lineup + James...I dunno, kinda dodgy.
