shitty plain glass won't make any difference at all. you need at least UV filtering glass which kills 90%+ of light damage. at my place we don't use actual regular glass on anything because it is useless, but if you buy frames from like michael's or home goods store or whatever, they might just have a crappy piece of glass in there. a good way to tell is that if you take the glass out of the frame and look at the edge, totally regular glass will usually appear greenish whereas something with UV protection in it will be lighter, kind of orangey, although that could just be for TruVue which is the brand we use most

another way to tell is that if you look at UV protected glass from an angle, you will kind of see a ripple in the reflection of light.
