speaking of slog, I usually end up asking what favorite originally German books people have, and it doesn't change, the most frequent answer is The Man without Qualities, Robert Musil.
The one fucking book where I tried several times over the years, and can't get through even a third of this monstrosity. My conclusion is that people are fucking liars, they haven't actually read the 1700 pages of this thing.
