Hereditary: A-
There a couple of glaring problems with the script but the whole thing is so masterfully executed that it wasn't until I was long out of the cinema that I noticed them. All the performances are fantastic (Toni Collette deserves an Oscar), Colin Stetson's score is superb, the cinematography is gorgeous and the way the whole thing slowly but surely escalates from psychological horror into visceral terror of the classic horror persuasion is executed brilliantly. My only complaints are that the "real" human trauma story and the more traditional horror elements never quite mesh the way they feel like they're supposed to, and for a film that hid a lot of clues in the corners of the frame it really heavily telegraphed its main twist, which detracted from the joy of piecing it together for me.
