Licensed to Ill really stood out at the time. Yes, eventually in image, but at first it was the sound. It was stripped down a lot compared to the chorus drench that dominated virtually all genre's of popular music through the 80's. Thinking about it now, it shouldn't be understated the unique timing of its release in a time where the lofi sound itself was part of its appeal.
