this is blatant disrespect of someone else's wishes, at a really fundamental level that even a child should understand. It's like if I keep calling you Dave, and you say, "Hey man, my name is actually Barry." And I say, "Oh sorry I don't recognize your right to identify as a name I don't think matches you. I know you feel disrespected, but I am respecting you in my own way by refusing to abide by your wishes."
