I'd kinda think of Joy Division as a post-punk band that was kinda proto-Goth in the sense that they influenced a lot of Gothic rock and had elements of it in their sound, and the Cure as both a post-punk and Gothic rock band (first album was post-punk, then they slided into Goth, but always kinda did both), but that's just me being pedantic and the distinction doesn't matter a whole lot to me. Gothic rock is pretty much just a subgenre of post-punk, the lines are blurry as fuck, and then you have, like, deathrock and whatever and I don't even know what the difference is between that and Gothic rock (just happens to be slightly campier, like, singing about horror movies and ghouls and vampires and graveyards and shit?)

I dunno, Elphy probably knows this shit (where the fuck has he even been for the last little while?)

In the end, if it sounds good, the name of the genre is "good shit."

My favourite genre is "good shit."
