Default For God and Country

My goodness.... I'm not sure how to feel about the new album.. Some good stuff, some okay stuff, some pretty bad stuff...

But what i'm most disappointed about is For God and Country. I saw them playing it live at Pinkpop, Holland, and it was my favorite song. It's simply beautiful... Now i listen to Zeitgeist, and i'm almost angry... Cause they fu*%&% up that beautiful song... Why not play it acoustically as during the tour? Now i''m listening to a song that would have fit on FutureEmbrace.. It's really terrible, it's electronic, and the melody is really different from the live version... I've listened it many times now, and it still sucks... Might sound a bit weird, but i'm really sad that i ever heard the live version... That was heaven, this is pure hell. Sure it can be called experimental, but this simply sucks big time... I wonder how you guys feel about this song, probably heard some great live versions at youtube...

I'm on the total opposite end of the spectrum on this song. I can't stand the acoustic versions out there...I find them really boring. FGAC isn't my favorite song on the album, but I definitely like it a lot.

I enjoy the acoustic as an alternative, but prefer the abum version much more.

Yeah, I thought the acoustic version of this song was okay at best, but it needed something more to it... but the album version fucking ROCKS. Definitely one of my favorite songs on the CD. I had heard that there was a lot of synth on it, but I wasn't expecting the kickass guitar parts and the edgier vocals.

Haha, i'll do that.

Positive note on the album though: jimmy's drumming is amazing (again).. Talked to Jimmy when he was in Amsterdam with the Complex, was a great concert and a great night with him talking to anyone who wanted... He didn't leave the building until all fans had gone.. True gent and what a talent.

I think bassiedude is probably unique in his opinion. It would be nice if they tried to play it like the album version

The vocals are so eerie on this album version though. If he were strummin' an acoustic on the album, it wouldn't have nearly as much bite. Folk singer, Billy ain't. He needs a little gothmagicelectro beat under him.

Yeah obviously ;-) I just always liked the contrast between loud rocking songs and plain simple songs like the ones on Twilight to Starlight... I didn't really like FutureEmbrace, although i listen to it occasionally.. Maybe FGAC reminds me too much of the sound of that solo album...

But generally speaking i like Zeitgeist, although it does not come close to their best work.. What i really don't like are some of the lyrics on the album... What happened to Billy's crazy lyrics? Some are really terrible imho.. Please fans, don't kill me for saying this... I have every SP record (original, not copied :-), zwan cd, jimmy's cd and corgan solo, and i am a huge fan, but i just have mixed feelings... Some songs are great, but really dislike the last song. And FG&C ain't my favorite obviously...

But it worked for the Chicago songs. And Zeitgeist (song).

Indeed it is, as is the progression -- it's just bass driven as opposed to guitar.

To me, the acoustic versions played in Europe don't do the album version justice.

The album version cooly dark and haunting...and one of the times where the layered vocal production actually works to its intended effect.

everyone who posted an opinion contrary to "the acoustic version of God and Country is better than the album version" is insane, to the point i can't even take it anymore.

Agreed. The acoustic version left me with a ton of hope for the album that never came to fruition when I heard the album version.

i like both, but find it more poignant when sung in stripped-down acoustic fashion. in that sense, it fits along-side the title track "Zeitgeist"

I prefer the album version. It's so fucking dark.

The live acoustic versions are mediocre. Nothing more.

I thoroughly enjoy both versions. The album version is catchy as fuck. I love that stop-and-start guitar with the bass and drums, not to mention the synth. veryyyy cool. bassiedude should shut the fuck up.

The only 2 songs I have probs with on the album, including the 3 b sides, are Come On() and FGAC. They are both growing on me, but the growing is going slow. The thing I think I like about FGAC, however, is how absolutely weird it sounds. The entire song makes me feel like I'm walking through a haunted house or something,, just plain strange.

The problem is, that being said, the lyrics to the chorus just don't seem to fit.
