Perhaps the Smashing Pumpkins have always been Corgan's solo project — if that's the case, it's way better than James Iha's solo project.

And I love how he says that Jimmy played drums on all of TFE when trying to prove that this isn't any different than Zwan or Billy's solo career.

The media people are just assholes to Billy for nothing. It's too bad that they have such personal feelings for him...they don't know him! Billy gets way more heat than other bands/musicians and its a bunch of crap too! They don't like Billy but like Britney Spears and others?? Wow! Losers!

Yeah, the way the media treats Billy really pisses me off and people who don't know any better might believe the things being said about him which makes it even worse. Also, I like how the guy says the songs are awesome but then feels like he has to bash the lineup, if the songs are awesome that should be the end of the article, no need to go on.

psshh... MTV? that's the real joke here, like I can take anything MTV says about anything seriously. Do they even know what music is anymore? what a dumb question, of course they don't.

I really doubt that anybody in the media who is bashing the lineup for just being BC and JC has seen or heard any of the shows so far, if they had they would realize that SP sounds just as good as ever. However, they like to be lazy and use crappy arguments to attack Billy.

Looks like the general music media is going to rip the new Pumpkins & Billy Corgan to shreds no matter what - get use to it.

The only way foward for Billy to make the Pumpkins big again would be to explain some of his actions even if they are obvious (like the piss-take video) or churn out a mega-successful single (Bring the Light?). Maybe if was more upfront with what he was thinking then the casual fans (the ones who buy most of the records) wouldn't let the negative media coverage dictate if they buy the record.......I think most hardcore fans understand he's much more easy going this time around. Not the Joe public though, and the mags are going to feast on this, calling him a wannabe messiah etc.

My predition: only 150,000 - 175,000 records sold in the first week in the USA.

"The video terrifically masks and covers the lack of original Pumpkins members actually in this incarnation — with quick cuts, crazy effects and a parade of generic people — Billy's successfully pulled the wool over the public's eyes. Is this new album and incarnation of the band a metaphor for our government or what?" — Christopher "CJ" Smith (token young indie guy), segment producer, MTV News

This is a good point right here. Billy has pulled the wool over the public's eyes. I was expecting a major backlash when people finally realized that James and Darcy weren't involved and that hasn't happened. This could be a metaphor for our government.

I agree, Billy really needs to explain things because the negative media will just continue to be all over him.

I liked the article. The author liked the video in all it's cheese-tastic glory, even if the other people he asked didn't.

I also liked the last line:

"Questions? Concerns? Iha? Drop me a line at BTTS@MTVStaff.com."

True, he could make things worse if he goes about it the wrong way. He just needs to not come off as being arrogant and egotistical like people believe he is.

This is going to be what the average person who knows a bit about the Pumpkins thinks of the video and song. It's not the easiest song to interpret, and it seems fake and hardly meaningful at all. But I think that's the whole point to some degree, it's just fun because it's like a cop out on actually using one of the better songs on this album to broadcast a return. At it's depth im pretty sure this song is probably the most meaningless song Billy Corgan has ever wrote, it's simply a were back and it don't matter what skin it's in we just want to have some fun/rock again. Which this song does really, and some people may be taken in by its light heartedness completely unaware. I applaud Billy but shake my head at the same time.

Actually, when I listened to Tarantula today after reading the real lyrics, I think it could be a not-so-subtle shout out to his former band members. And not in a negative way, just kind of a "Look, I'm back. Wish you could be here."

I sent an email.

"Jimmy did not play drums on TheFutureEmbrace. Well, he guested on the track "DIA", but the rest of them were electronically done. Are you that much of a moron to believe those are organic drums, or did you not even listen to the record? "

response (took about 1 minute. these guys have no life, just like me)

"wait, so he guested on one track ... and did he play drums on that track?
because, if so, i think that qualifies as "playing drums on 'thefutureembrace' then."

What a jackass.

His article implies that TFE and Zeitgeist are the same project because Jimmy had an equal influence. Don't be a punk.
