The Worst SP song I've ever heard

-Awful lyrics, he keeps saying "For God & Country" all over the song, and then he says "For God & Country we'll fight, For God & Country we'll die"
-Simple, very simple music, basic guitar chords
-BORING
-It reminds me of Zwan.
-Vocals are almost impossible to tolerate, his whiny voice is just making noises now, he's not hitting any notes.
-GOD!!! THIS SONG IS THE LONGEST IN THE ALBUM AFTER UNITED STATES... How can he go on and on and on and on the same shit for 5 fucking minutes...

I thought Tarantula was horrible... but For God and Country is much worse.

Again, stop applauding everything Billy sings, it makes you look like idiots, do you think ANY of you, in this board, would defend this song if it was made by any other artist ?

Well Billy does seem to be repetitive in the lyrics for the new songs. Despite the lyrics, this song is pretty and simple. There are no dynamics and its not memorable but not forgettable either. Really, I can't say much until I hear the album.
But I don't think its the wost pumpkins song ever.

For God and Country is a good song in the same way that Sweet Sweet, Lily, or We Only Come Out At Night can be considered a good song. They're simple and not really "mature" songs in terms of other parts of the pumpkin body of work but they're still catchy and fun to hear.

he is trying to be serious, true. But it's not as serious as he is in say United States, the only other song i can consider political on the album. The acoustic version of FG&C sounded almost fun compared to that dirge.

Its fair that you think its the worst SP song you've ever heard, though I would suggest going back to Le Deux Machina. In my opinion, anyone is hard pressed to make the argument you just made simply based on Le Deux Machina.

Why do you keep telling people what to do? It makes you look like an idiot. Has it not occured to you that perhaps some people like this song and that they can be legit? In the same way that yes, perhaps someone does like Le Deux Machina.
There are, in my music library, a handful of artists that, over time, have proven themselves to release material that I like. Bjork is one example. I reallllly didnt like Vespertine (until a few months ago) and I despised Medulla. But I attempted to listen to what she was trying to do. And Im glad I did cause then she released Volta which I love.

So the point is...with Billy, ya it might seem like I applaud everything he does, but I try to listen to the music and understand what he is doing or where he is coming. And 90% of the time, I get it. If you've been disappointed for the last decade, then move on, its no big deal.

it's certainly longer than those other songs, though. second only to United States on the album. it's kind of weird.

glad you like it too. I was listening to Sacred + Profane while riding the SkyTrain the other night and it just seemed to fit perfectly. There's a lot of good material on there.
