Default Do we have a "refuge" for when the site goes down later today?

This is of course assuming the Luxembourg show causes server havoc...

That blogger shit was terrible but it still got info out.

Any ideas?

I'm going to be making a new entry on smashthepumpkins.blogspot.com for today's show, but there obviously won't be any audio/video until later tonight. We can head there unless someone's got a better place.

Maybe we should donate and get Netphoria a better server!

the server was actually updated less than a year ago, i.e. since i joined.

um, it used to crap out under moderate everyday load, tell you the server is too busy, try again...

but i hadn't seen it drop off the face of the earth like this until just recently.

i wonder what it would take to handle the load properly?

Never had those problems with Zwanphoria.

Oh wait, it was even worse.

Thepumpkins.net

Although that crashes as well.

I'm not really sure.

Maybe a stable site..like Pearl Jam forums or something?

What kind of a server can't handle 500-700 people? That was a crap upgrade 'phoria.

Netphoria is not used to being the new o-board. When the pumpkin's we're not playing the board would hit maybe 70-80 at a time.

this was first to go after netphoria, actually.

blamo is unreliable but it seemed to work VERY intermittently.

The server has been pretty stable as of late.

Even when the traffic starts to spike the server handles the load fine, what happens however is the server begins to run out of memory when these traffic spikes happen, so many people are requesting pages all at once that it eats up a ton of memory. Normally after every request the memory clears and is available again but with these spikes so many people are coming all at once that it doesn't clear in time and it begins to run out of available ram and starts to panic. I will be adding some additional ram to the server soon to help with these traffic spikes.

Thanks for responding, Andrew. How much ram is in the server at the moment, anyway?

And I agree, the server has been basically rock solid except when these huge surges of traffic come in.

The vbulletin stats there aren't entirely accurate, during those traffic spikes it was actually closer to about 2,000 people all at once trying to access the site here.

500-700 people accessing a Vbulletin board is considered fairly high, most people who run this software normally have 100 or less accessing it at any given time.

The server can handle that many people, I just need to add some more Ram to the server to help deal with the traffic spikes.

There is 1GB in there at the moment, this has been fine under normal circumstances but not quite enough when these traffic spikes occur. I am going to bump it to 2GB soon.

Are you sure 2gb will be enough? Can you tell how far short you're falling at the moment, RAMwise?

I like Brendo, and I don't think this is a crap thread.

This is, however, a crap post.

And thanks andrew....probably doesn't help that everyone just sits there hitting reload over and over again trying to get in.

I got into blamo less often the other day than i did into netphoria...and blamo is basically dead. The first post on there today that I saw was..'so who is in the new pumpkins?'
