Talking So I wonder if Billy will call him a fat fuck again in a fax

Pumpkins 'reunion' to have only two of the original band
Wouldn't Corgan and Chamberlin seem more like a reincarnation of Zwan?

April 10, 2007
BY JIM DeROGATIS Pop Music Critic
Although the Smashing Pumpkins still haven't made an official announcement -- making this the longest period ever without guitarist-vocalist Billy Corgan shooting his mouth off -- it seems as if the lineup for the much-vaunted reunion of Chicago's alternative-rock superstars will involve only one of the other original members, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
Second guitarist James Iha finally broke his own long silence last week when he told RollingStone.com that he isn't involved in recording the new album "Zeitgeist," which is set for release on Reprise Records on July 7, and he won't be playing as part of the reunion tour, which starts in Paris on May 22.

"I haven't spoken to Billy in years," Iha said, indicating that the full-page newspaper ad that Corgan placed two years ago to solicit a reunion didn't prompt the wayward guitarist to phone his old bandmate. "I'm writing for a solo record, which I'm going to record this year, and working on my indie label, Scratchie Records."

Original bassist D'Arcy Wretzky doesn't seem to be involved, either. Although the band's publicist did not respond to requests for comment Monday, several Internet music news sites are reporting that the Pumpkins are now completed by bassist Ginger Reyes, formerly of the California all-girl pop-punk band Halo Friendlies, and guitarist Jeff Schroeder, formerly of a little-known Southern California noise-pop band called the Lassie Foundation.

The move doesn't really surprise longtime Corgan-watchers, given his notoriously difficult relationships with Wretzky and Iha, though some fans may wonder what makes this more of a Pumpkins reunion than a reincarnation of Zwan, since Chamberlin also played with Corgan in that short-lived post-Pumpkins group. The most revealing comment came from Pumpkins manager Paul Geary, who spoke to MTV.com several weeks ago.

"I've been involved with bands whose members can't stand each other, and over time they run out of dough and that's why they [reunite]," Geary said. "But Billy's making a great record, and for the sake of a younger generation that he wants to turn on to the band's music, he is doing it with a band that will more faithfully re-create the old songs than ever before."

In other words: Meet the new "Smashing Pumpkins," same as the other reunited nostalgia acts such as the Police, Genesis, the Stooges, etc., etc.

I guess Jimbo agrees with some of the "pro james" people. I wonder if other members of the media will take it easy on corgan now that this is out.

How the fuck could I forget that day? The empty detroit streets. The hot chick giving away blowjobs and money for a ticket. The idiot on the fire escape. Queens of the stone age for the first time, leading up to SP generation 1 for the last time.

Oh, to go back to those times.

Oh, and by the way, this thread is a piece of shit Esty. Here's an idea, you should start belittling yourself when you start retarded threads repeating topics that have already been discussed.

Or, is this yet another, "I'm right again, the new Pumpkins will suck without the original members, pat myself on the fucking back," thread?

This topic hasn't been discussed. This came out in todays Chicago Sun Times, and is available on the web at the sun times website.

This is "the Media has started to say something about this" thread. Jim Derogatis had actually warmed up to billy in recent years and vice versa. I thought that article really showed what jim derogatis is thinking about this "reunion". I can't wait for his album review.

What is there to wonder about, Jim? It's going to sound more like SP and not Zwan. And they're going to play Pumpkins songs when they tour. Stop being a smartass.

there isn't a single original thought in this article. everything was either taken from other articles or pieced together from comments on sites like this one. its also obvious that if this article had a more positive tone, esty would not have posted it.

big up for the 4-10-99 love though...

Um, it's 3/3 of the Police touring. It is 3/3 of the 80's version of Genesis touring. I'm not too familiar with Iggy/Stooges, but I'm pretty sure the core lineup is present there, too.

This is more like today's Journey or something. You might as well call it Zwan 2.0, just that Zwan 2.0 is playing Pumpkins songs this time around.

And Billy and Jimmy on their own are 50% of the Pumpkins compared to 40% of Zwan, so what makes you think it's more a Zwan reunion than a Pumpkins reunion?

it cercertainly seems it should be that this way don't it, i don't think billy wants to be boo booood off stage, so he has to play the old hits

I think he thinks:

SP1 = SP1
Zwan = SP2
SP2 = SP3

Like most trolls.

Seriously though, how much more convincing as "The Pumpkins" would they have been if they had the lineup Corgan/Chamberlin/Auf der Maur/Garson, rather than Corgan/Chamberlin/Reyes/Schroeder. It's like when Deep Purple kicked out Ian Gillan and Roger Glover and replaced them with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.

I don't think you can pull off a 2 people + session musicians reunion. Unless you're a solo artist. Or Axl Rose.

I have been waiting for what my local media will be saying about this travesty calling itself "TSP". Being from chicago, i'm well aware of Corgans/Derogatis history, as i'm sure you are. So its interesting to see how things are right now knowing that they seemed to "get along" a whole lot more recently. Also, this is the first "post james annoucement" article that I know of, and I'm interested in how the media will treat the news, and billy. I'm sure you'll be providing us with only pro billy articles from your rsssssss bullshit daily.

I'm sure you're just upset I posted this before you.

i beg to differ. i think that since he is trying to turn a younger generation onto the band's music that he is just using the fucking cash cow some more

The quote "he's playing them with a band that will allow him to MORE FAITHFULLY ---recreate-- the old songs than EVER BEFORE."

WHAT THE HELL? Why hasn't anyone else latched on to the grammatic and conceptual absurdity of that statement. This NEW band will allow him to more faithfully "RECREATE" the old music, more faithfully recreate it than it was even created in the first place! WELL HOT DAMN! That's pretty fucking amazing! Will a new copying machine allow me to more FAITHFULLY CREATE ORIGINALS FROM COPIES THAN I COULD AFTER I DID IT? I mean, what other kinds of ridiculous statements can we make. 'Firing our president will allow a new leader to more faithfully carry out Bush's acts than Bush ever could.' Eating this pizza will make you hungry for pizza, more so than fucking a jellyfish. I mean the whole thing is mad.
