landed chinese immigrants and arctic construction sites just don't mix.
 

the guy can barely speak english, so picture him talking to inuit who barely speak englih.
the guy is all theory, no practical, so he's slowing up and pissing off the foreman.
the guy's always dodging through the dozers and hoes to take samples; it's amazing he hasn't been flattened out by them yet.
the guy's had $300 stolen out of his backpack because he left it lying around unintended.
and yesterday he cut a corner too close and got hung up on a building, and instead of stopping and backing up, he gunned it, so there's a huge scraped down the side of one of the trucks. (apparently he's only been driving for 5 years, and has never driven something as big as an F150. he road a bike in China).

i feel sorry for him. he doesn't belong here, and he knows it. he's working all alone as the geotechnical engineer on site. he hasn't seen his family for a month (two kids). i share a room with him.

how long are you up there for? You're in Nunavut? I hear they pay very very well up there- but maybe thats just in the winter.

i'm up here for 5 weeks. typically people work 3 weeks on, 1 week off, or some ratio like that, but i'm just doing one long stint, so i don't need a break.
i'm getting about 1200/wk, plus room and board. considering that i'm a student and the board is pretty fucking good, i think it's a sweet deal. there's not much to do in my spare time though, the town's dry, and the only chicks are inuit who only have half their teeth left, so that kind of sucks.
