Sonic Youth at the Kool Haus last night

The show was absolutely amazing. The crowd was great; no assholes. Kim Gordon had such good stage presence and it was great seeing Jim O'Rourke playing with them. "I love you Golden Blue" is a great opener. I was kind of disappointed that there weren't too many songs from Murray Street (just Disconnection Notice in the encore). But it was definitely one of the best shows I've been to.

Were there any other Netphorians there? I saw Hyperbole and spava.

Rockin' Cherub 08-06-2004 09:13 AM

did they play wish fulfillment?

oclaftap 08-06-2004 10:49 AM

im going to see them next saturday. does the setlist have much old stuff or is it mostly new?

jukeboxphuckup 08-06-2004 09:51 PM

no they didn't play wish fulfillment. Here's the setlist:

I Love You Golden Blue
100%
Pattern Recognition
Unmade Bed
Skip Tracer
Mariah Carey and the ADH
Stones
New Hampshire
Paper Cup Exit
Silver Rocket
Dude Ranch Nurse
Drunken Butterfly

Encore:
Disconnection Notice
Sugar Kane

Expressway To Yr Skull

I thought it was a pretty good setlist. Almost half of the songs were from other albums. oclaftap, have fun at the show next Saturday.

oclaftap 08-06-2004 10:38 PM

thats a pretty nice setlist, and thanks im sure i will

tear stained glass 08-07-2004 12:06 AM

I saw them in San Diego and they played a much different setlist than that, aside from opening with "I Love You Golden Blue." It's too bad you didn't get to see more from Murray Street, though. "Karen Revisited" live is where it's at.

strange_one 08-07-2004 12:42 AM

they played White Kross when I saw them about 5 weeks ago, that was the shiznat

ProgressChrome 08-07-2004 12:43 AM

I really wish I had gone to this show :(

daydreamer999 08-07-2004 03:08 AM

Sonic Youth are so damn good live, I saw them about 6 weeks ago in Auckland.

That setlist was very incredibly good: 100%, Silver Rocket & Sugar Kane *starts salivating*, the only 'classic' song they played in Auckland was Kool Thing, which I have to admit was pretty fucking awesome.

VegasPumpkin 08-07-2004 03:37 AM

i saw them 2 weeks ago here in vegas.
here was our setlist:
I love you golden blue
bull in the heather
empty page
stones
eric's trip
pattern recognition
unmade bed
mariah carey and the arthur doyle hand cream
paper cup exit
white kross
new hampshire
dude ranch nurse
drunken butterfly

encore:
rain on tin
pch

Rockin' Cherub 08-07-2004 08:23 AM

wut! they should at least play teenage riot! or dirty boots!

jukeboxphuckup 08-07-2004 08:54 AM

Yeah I was at least hoping for Rain on Tin, but the show was still one of the best I've ever been to regardless.

That must have been awesome. They played "Schizophrenia" in Milwaukee and it was perfect. It was exactly what I was in the mood for, and I thought, well shit, they won't play it now, and it turned out to be the second song in the set.

i would die for this. that three note build up before the big tom roll part gives me the chills everytime. to those of you that are saying "man i wish they would have played ____" yea well, they have 20 albums- when you go to a sonic youth show you'd best just go with an open mind because you might just find yourself in the middle of a 20 minute noise jam, though i dont think they do that live so much since the 1000 leaves tour.

Lie 08-11-2004 11:51 PM

Oh, also, we had upstairs seats on the far right side of the stage, and when Thurston was falling all over his amp and it was tipping, there was actually a stage dude in back holding it up. I am SO disillusioned now.

hey, rock concerts aren't about freaks. they're about music. and advertising. and youth oriented product positioning.

and maybe getting toasted. nicely toasted.

Nate the Grate 08-12-2004 09:34 AM

if they play 100% or Kool Thing, I might defecate in my pants.

ohhh, just imagine if they played Teen Age Riot. as an encore. *homer gurgle*

Nate the Grate 08-12-2004 09:36 AM

oh yeah, I'm seeing them with White Magic and Magik Marker. anybody know if they are good?
