Why are foreign movies "films"?

most likely because the money that was spent on a foregin "film" probably never went towards Charlie Sheen paying for coke and whores.

I always thought film was english and movie was American. Just as 'mail' and 'post'

not sure about that, but "film" is french for "movie", so that could have something to do with it.

ive always just be default called kinda shitty entertainment-based ones movies, and more substantial, rich ones, films. 'movie' just has more cheap connotations to it, film is more significant. i use it accordingly, i dont know why you take such offense to its use.
