DSL Modem question:
Which would be the best way to connect my new DSL modem to my PC. Ethernet or USB ? Which is faster?
I have both options available. |
Try both and see which works best for you. But dsl is kind of shitty. Too many disconnects.

i'd have to check on the ethernet port on my PC. thx anyhoo. |
Damn, you people don't know shit about computers.
You are not going to notice a difference in speed between the two connections. If you have an ethernet port, use that and save yourself a USB port. |

I built my PC, so obviously i know a bit about them. I have no idea whats the difference between the ethernet port or the USB connection. I know nothing about ethernet ports which was why i posted this thread asking for information. My old DSL modem & its drivers would crash WinXP after a while of connectivity, thus the reason i got a newer one. Constant error reports to microsoft alerted me to that. Thanks, i guess, for the info LeDrew.... oh and Fuck you, for being such a Pompous Ass about this. |
i think i have an ethernet card(for my cable modem), but i'm not completely sure. so, i'd say at this point, if you're still debating what's better, i'd probably say go w/the ethernet one. after all, i *heart* my cable modem connection(and my super-fast downloads, can't live without that, that's for damn sure....). :D

i'd go for the ethernet one, it is just more "network" than USB.
|
ethernet. no doubts about it
|
ethernet.
also youll want to see if your network card in your computer is just 10, or 10\100, or 100\1000 and then buy your ethernet cable based on that so you dont have any bottlenecks. dan ps: dsl > cable modem. |
Like the people said, go Ethernet. And I never get disconnects on my DSL
