your first date movies?

these are first date movies I've gone on. Not "date" as in "going to the movies w/ my s.o. again" but *first* date movies:

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
(good date, hooked up with a girl who I had been after for awhile)

American Pie 2
(pretty good date, got some sumthin. didn't talk to her again after that though, oh well)

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
(awesome date. re-hooked up with an old ex after 4 years. think "You oughta know")

Punkdrunk Love
(very bad date. I should know better than to take a non-film geek to a PTA movie. Great and beautiful movie, but really bad date)

yours?

movies i typically watch with a date:

empire records
clerks
great expectations
edward scissor hands

Crocodile Dundee 3

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Atanaruat: The Fast Runner

Now those are two different ends of the movie spectrum.

My first-ever date was to The Sixth Sense. And the first movie I saw wit my present girlfriend, even though it wasn't a date per se, was Almost Famous.

I see movies with my parents, or by myself.

i saw gladiator with some creep who couldn't keep his hands to himself. i told him to take me home.

I see alot of movies in general. I try to get my folks out to one movie a year just as a "thing" to pretend we have some family solidarity. & I take my little cousins to movies all the time ("Lilo and Stich" ruled!)
But in all honesty the majority of the time I go to the movies by myself and it really doesn't bother me at all. Sure the few times I felt awkward but if you think about it, watching a film is a solitary experience - you don't chit-chat during it. why is it so important to bring someone along to be quiet with you?
Which is why, usually, if I can't think of anything special to do on a first date it boils down to "uh, wanna go see a movie or somethin'?"

Yes. I hate spending two hours with a person on a date having not had any chance to talk.

Which is why I don't understand why *anyone* would want to go on a movie for the first date. Unless they're just trying to guarantee a second since they haven't really talked.

its not JUST that, afterwards you grab a bite & coffee & other things. lull in conversation, talk about movie. its just kinda a way to gauge what body language / signals you can get from a person in a close space for 2 hours or so. . . if its awkward, then bail. if not, keep going. there's a system to it.

also, hell, I just like going to movies.

Red Wine Cage 11-09-2002 06:00 PM

Jason X and Jackass come to mind as movies i have seen when on a date.
