help: domain and website stuff
i succesfully switched domain names with my server now they asked me to do this:
Your name change has been completed. You will need to contact the registrar for darcywretzky.org and modify the nameservers to the ones listed below. Your login remains the same. Thanks ns.avdns5.com 209.151.66.129 ns2.avdns5.com 209.151.66.130 ok what do i do ? |
up
somebody rescue me |
As far as I can see, all it's saying is that you need to contact the people who host your website so they can update their who is info and get the dns numbers set correctly for your new domain. Because they'll have your old info, and they'll need to correct it since you've changed domains....
I may be wrong though, I've never actually gone through and registered a domain, because I'm cheap. |
but it doesnt make sense..since the host was the one who sent my emal. so i have to contact my domain company?
i feel so inept |
My coworker's (who do have domain names registered) said you need to email your host (even if they're the ones who just sent you that email) and tell them "my old domain was .... my new domain is .... my old name server was .... my new nameserver is .... " etc. so they can update their records
|
hmmm okay lemme look around and see
thanks ;) |
Let me try...
You transferred your domain right? The registrar is you, so I think you have to contact your hosting service and tell them all... :( |
have you bought your domain separatly from the hosting service? if so, you will have to contact the company where you registered your domain. or you could have gotten an account at your registrar where you can change such stuff yourself.. if you bought the domain in a bundle with the web-hosting, you should contact the company where you originally bought this bundle (and at this occasion ask them to transfer the domain to your new hoster)

ns.avdns5.com ns2.avdns5.com' give them the IP addresses if you want, but you're probably better with just the names. Then you'll be set! |
Actually I just did a lookup, and it's all set. Now you just need an hour or so (at the most) for the DNS information to propagate, and it should all be working
|
hey thanks devious.
you rock! yeah i got all that fixed up..now im waiting for my transfer to go thru completely so i can access my site from darcywretzky.org if you wanna look at the front page in the meantime go to:http://asteroids.vosn.net/~drowning/ :) |
Hey that's ok - tell the webhost people to get their asses in gear, it should take a couple of minutes to update their records.
|
well i went into the "domain manager" section on their site. and changed the nameservers...so i guess its just a matter of time
:( or is that supposed to be instant? |
