transferring domain questions
k another question
if i registered for two domains, and one is uploaded into my server (or host)...and i wanna use the other instead....can i do that? or does that mean i have to get a whole new host service again  |
You can use them both if you like, have them point to the same IP address. Although your actual webhosting people might only allow you 1 virtual server (1 domain).
|
i think im only allowed one name
i just wanna get rid of one...and switch it to the other help :( |

Ok, you need to:
Contact your web hosting company (where your site is hosted) and tell them you're changing your domain. They'll fix things so the new name brings up your site. Contact your domain hosting company (who you bought the new name from) and either give them the IP address of the server, or give them the webhosting company's tag. I don't know how your deal with them is set up, but I'd guess your webhost is handling the nameservers. Ask them if they are, and ask for their tag. If they give you a tag, just pass that onto the domain hosting people. If not, you'll need the server's IP adress instead. Also, if they give you a tag, you might need to ask your webhost people to amend your domain on their nameservers. I'd think they'd do it anyway, but if there are 2 different people handling the nameservers and the actual webserver, there could be some confusion - so it's best to make sure. Hmmm, that probably didn't make any sense :/ |
hmm ok lets see
i emailed tech support and told them that i had registered another domain, and wanted to use that one instead of the first one. i think that makes sense..... so i guess its up to them to take the current domain out of the server........i thought i could be able to do that, but i guess not ok im gonna have to wait and see till tech support writes back :) thanks! im so excited, i cant wait till my site starts working :D |
Yeah, so that should handle things at their end... but you bought your domain from a separate company right? If not, they should fix everything. But if you did, you need to tell the domain people how to find your site. So either give them your server's IP address (if the domain people are handling the nameservers) or the 'tag' for your webhosting company (if the webhosting people are handling the nameservers). Man I hate DNS crap, this is all what I've pieced together after talking to a bunch of hosting companies who can never give a straight answer :/
I have to go now, but if you need any other help then feel free |
thanks d00d
yeah i got my domain @ 000domains.com and hosting @ below10host.com |
