movie let downs

what movies do you think had great potential, but were unfortunately a disappointment?

The Prophecy:
This movie about shocking modern day angels could have been great. They established that there was a hierarchy of angels, and that they were in conflict over god's attention. The introduction is quite stylish, and sets the scene well.
It had a pretty decent cast - Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, etc
it should have had more angels, more dialog between them, more conflicts.. but instead it's about some little girl's soul and Lucifer trying to steal it.

Star Wars (episodes):
Watching the original trilogy again really highlights how different it is from these new movies.
Everything from how the old sets look gritty yet realistic as opposed to the synthetic and artificial feel of every scene in the 'episodes', to the lack of imagination in the storylines.
it turns out that boba fett was that new zealand dude that starred in shortland street. And because he got cloned, it means that all the storm troopers are all that same guy. couldn't you tell it in their accents?
"G'day Vader, That solo bloke's starting to give me a bit of aggro. Mate, look! My biro's just leaked all over my new Swanndri!"

bad lucas.

Spiderman:
ok, i shouldn't really talk about this considering i haven't even seen it. But from what i have seen (making of, trailers, interviews, etc.)
peter parker has turned from someone who should be sharp, intelligent and witty, to some dull, dopey-looking goon.
His costume looks lame.
Making his eyes silver, and adding those 'bumps' in his suit i think really detract from his trademark look.
I suppose they did this in light of realism..
stan lee should be ashamed.

Planet of The Apes.
apparently based on the original novel, but it loses out on some essentials that the original movie possesses. Which is the role-reversal of animals and humans. One prerequisite of this should be the fact that animals can't talk, and therefore neither should the humans.
Add the fact that a) marky-mark has leading roles, and b) that they were never on earth(!) , and not even Tim Burton can save it.

your turn

Lord of the rings : It's nothing like the book. A bunch of midgets running around, and they're all white.

Red Dragon:

The book is great but I saw the movie first and I was confused why "the toothfairy" was doing what he was doing. He was just biting people but they never really said why. Also when i saw the previews they were acting like hannibal was the main character which wasn't the case. I had to go get the book to truly understand the story.

i've only seen the movie, and it was obvious to me that he was abused as a child. with his mom or somebody threatening to cut off his thing.... um...yeah...

Based on a great book, good actors, talented new director. What went wrong: talented director strips away plot and character development and shows off how flashy his camerawork and editing can be. The thing feels like he was making an audition to become a hollywood director, and hey, it worked, he's making the new Batman movie.

who needs plot when you have great visuals? guh

oh, i forgot..

the crow 2
one of the most disappointing films i've ever seen.
way to attempt to mimic the first movie, while managing to destroy all the things which made the first movie special.

Is the crow character a cool sadistic entity that he was in the first movie? No, he's a wimpy french dweeb that doesn't possess the most basic of fighting skillz.
and while iggy pop may look like an apt thug, his acting ability is rather terrible.
at least the girl's kinda hot.

spiderman wasn't horrible because of the acting. if they had been given a fucking DECENT script maybe it would have been at least salvagable even with the same actors (all of which who were awful) but fuck the story was horrible, the lines were horrible, and did they make all the CG work horrible on purpose? cause it';s HORRIBLE

oh and Vulgar was really really stupid.

A read a newspaper review of Spiderman that said it was "morally complex". I had to laugh.
