It's rather interesting but I don't want to post it because I am an intellectual poser and I'm trying not to be such an intellectual poser.

But man, seriously, the origin of the "sag" just shows what morons the purveyors of this fashion trend really are.

The legend of the sag as I understand it also comes from prison but it is more homophobic of a legend than racist. I've heard this from reliable sources but have performed no independent verification:

People sagged in prison to let other guys know that they were down with getting their salad tossed (ass eaten out) or getting fucked in the ass. You sagged to let the prowlers know who was looking for this kind of thing.

The way the sagging spread to mainstream was that these prison saggers would keep sagging once back in the outside world. One version of the story is that they sagged on the outside still as a kind of "letting people know what's up with their ass" kind of think. Like hey I'm cool with that.

I heard this story from someone who was disputing the validity of what Rhino said. Like "hey that's not how sagging started, but this is." I've heard it from a few people but like I said, this may be urban legend as well.
