Advantages and disadvantages of living Memphis, TN

Memphis is OK. Just really depends on the area of town that you live in. You'd probably want to stay out of south memphis, southeast memphis.

Pro: The Civil Rights Museum is amazing

Con: You will be in Memphis, Tennessee.

Downtown memphis is a great place to chillax on the weekends. and the memphis in may festival is always great. BBQ fest is fucking sweet :o

Germantown, midtown and bartlett are good areas to live in. oh and so is cordova.

Okay, so how about this? Specific blatant disadvantages to living in Memphis, Tennessee. What are they?

I really can't think of any other disadvantage other than it's the south.

On a serious note, what would bring you to Memphis?

- need a major change in scenery
- want to get out of the Midwest but am afraid of people in coastal towns because they're all insane
- want to be around some kind of music scene but don't want to live in New York or L.A.
- cost of living is 17% lower than where I'm living right now
- have driven through the Tennesee/North Carolina area and think it's beautiful
- want to experience the South without having to experience the DEEP South
- boyfriend's grandparents live in Tennessee
- none of my crazy family live remotely near Memphis
- love B.B.Q.
- want to escape the oppressive fake liberalism and overblown "cultured" academia of the North/Midwest and what I imagine the East Coast to be like in some ways
- want to live somewhere generally warmer and milder

And because it's such a dorky, stupid-sounding, non-typical thing for someone my age to do and fuck everybody.
