what's up with Punch Drunk Love?

i thought it was opening everywhere today! what the fuck! it's not playing anywhere near KC, Lawrence, or Topeka. imdb says October 18th.

why the fuck is it happening? are they planning on giving it a wider release sometime soon?

Irrelevant 10-18-2002 10:01 PM

yeah. they've shown trailers for it here for like 2 months. i don't see why they aren't giving it a full release.

oh, and i saw a trailer for Adaptation the other day. whacky. nicholas cage actually looks pretty good in it. i mean, acting-wise.

i hate people that call movies by the lead actor. it's not adam sandler's movie. it's p.t. anderson's movie.

like when people called minority report a tom cruise movie. it pissed me off. i was like, idiot, it's a stephen spielberg movie. and when people called signs a mel gibson movie.

yeah, pretty much. but then, i did at least think he used to be funny on SNL and in Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. and The Wedding Singer was good despite the cheese. it's just been so far downhill since then.

NO NO NO

there are some movies that i will not see because of certain performers that i detest. adam sandler being one of them. so therefore it might as well be HIS movie. OKAY?

I don't think i'll see a better movie this year- I just hope that this film gets some sort of legit recognition this coming award season.

i enjoyed the awkward sensitivity he evoked there. this is what i've been hoping to see more of. :/

Wide release this Friday.

I, for one, can't wait. First movie I've wanted to see on its day of release in a long, long time.

And you're just being silly if you shut yourself off because it's Adam Sandler. There's just a slight difference in what P.T. Anderson could do with him than what Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy) or Steven Brill (Mr. Deeds, Little Nicky) did. Anderson is notoriously heavy-handed and a perfectionist, and while that can stifle him sometimes, I can't imagine he would cast Sandler if the man weren't capable of acting. Furthermore, this is not your typical Adam Sandler film, in the same way that The Truman Show wasn't a typical Jim Carrey film--both (from what I have read on PDL) play on the strengths of the actors while placing them in an entirely new, far more serious, backdrop.

The Truman Show is a great movie; hopefully, PDL will be the same.
