I'd say if you actually look ethnic then go for it and call yourself that. But if you look white and go around telling people you're italian, then that's just lame. That's annoying when some white cracka tries to play off their honkyness cuz they're like 1/12 american indian. don't be ashamed whitey!

oh yeah, there's an exception, you can still call yourself an ethnicity if you are really 100% that but by some freak of nature actually look white--like that white looking mexican dude ("vatos locos forever!!!") in Blood in Blood out.

i know that my sister got her college tuition paid for by using our ethnicity factor. but she had to go to the archives in DC to get all kinds of documentations and stuff and it seemed like a lot of work to me. damn injuns kept lousy records. :noway:

People here call italians wops as a derogatory term. They call mexicans spics, and vietnamese gooks. I don't care what you think, that's the reality of it.

no. the reality of it is that it's an acronym. so it's not really all that derogatory.

i was in a mexican restaurant a couple years ago.... and they gave me one of those after red and white striped after dinner mints, and it said spi-C mint... like spicy mint

i read it as "spic mint" quite loudly (not knowing what a spic was.... in a mexican restaurant) and my sister was shocked

if you want to use a degogatory term to refer to an italian at least use one that can be used for italians only - like dago. because W.O.P. again, refers to anyone arriving to the states with no documentation. so anyone that thinks they're being derogatory(or even just joking around) by using the term W.O.P. to describe an italian just sounds really idiotic and uneducated.

Whoever is saying you need to be one-quarter is wrong.

At least as it applies to claiming African-American or Hispanic/Non-White on anything having to do with the federal government.

Maybe it's different for other races.

Geore Will had a good column on it in Newsweek circa April 2002. Just saying how ridiculous the "one-drop" rule is. His article just referred to African-Americans.
