will radiohead break up after this tour?

the article i read on them in the new Q magazine left me feeling like they will.

Boner 07-24-2003 05:55 PM

NME left me feeling like they are in it for the long haul.

The quote that went something to the effect of "Radiohead will not even be recognizable in 5 years" could just be them talking, but I guess it's possible I just wanna believe.

Why Am I So Ugly? 07-24-2003 05:59 PM

nah they cant split up after releasing a non-groundbreaking album

Ihaman 07-25-2003 03:38 PM

i certainly hope not, im not going to be able to see this tour

machinaddict 07-25-2003 04:39 PM

The article in spin gave me the impression they intend to do more albums. There was also talk of a Thom York solo album.
I don't want them to break up. Oh yes, spin sucks, but the interview was very good.

Crono 07-25-2003 05:07 PM

What i remember hearing is that Thom was talking, possibly in Spin, about doing just EP's and no more LP's. It sounds cool, but.... would it be?

Gary 07-25-2003 08:52 PM

I say yes. The current Radiohead situation reminds me of the Smashing Pumpkins a bit.
Released an Album Totally different to their previous (and very well recieved albums) that doesnt live up to the medias expectations of the group, yet fans highly rate it (Kid A/Amnesiac & Adore), Then release an album that the media & fans of the band mostly think is their worst to date (Hail to the Thief & Machina).
I hope they do stay together longer, as i seen them live earlier in the year and they were very good, but I think that like the pumpkins they have done all they can as a group and can't go any farther without looking like a parody of themselves. As a fan of Radiohead I really hope that they prove me wrong, but I cant see Radiohead being around for much longer :(

THRILLHO 07-25-2003 09:42 PM

i don't care if they break up. i wouldn't be surprised if they feel they have nowhere left to go creatively and leave at the top in the near future, and in that case it would be better than to see them put out something bad. besides, i'm SURE thom yorke will have a solo album. i don't really know why, but it just seems so expected.

The b-sides they have released for this album, and for amnesiac as well, give me the impression that they're still a band with alot of room for growth and a willingness for exploration. Should they indeed break up i would suspect either chemistry or politics at fault, but certainly not some kind of creative exhaustion

there are some amnesiac b-sides that are some of the most beautiful music i've ever heard (fog, worrywort). the b-sides for "there there" are...well, boring.

i know what he's talking about, though. it's when a band hits a certain point, and they can no longer be as creative as they once were, due to families and growing up in general. see: the beatles.

Oh fuck. I guess they will break up soon. I want to change my vote.

i knew you'd see it my way.

aldango 07-26-2003 12:02 AM

I don't think they're planning on it anytime soon. Thom has said "Radiohead will be unrecognizable in 2 years" or something to that effect (I know it was 2 years). That makes me partay hard.

As SC said, this is an untrue statement, and I'd just like to reiterate--at the very worst, Hail is certainly better than Pablo Honey and the Bends, and hell, it's better than Amnesiac, too.

i remember during the machina publicity blitz ...thats what billy was telling interviewers months before they announced the breakup..

neways, I doubt they'd cap it off with a less than stellar album.. with over half the songs written about how much thom hates dubya

paranoid 07-26-2003 02:33 PM

comparing radiohead to the breakup of the smashing pumpkins is ridiculous. First of all, half the reason the pumpkins stopped was because they could not hold it's original form together.. on top of that the band as a whole was not a complete force.. it was mostly billy and jimmy doing the work. (I think Mellon Collie is really the only full band effort record).

Radiohead have been doing this for 10 years and longer now.. all members still together, all have had equal creative force throughout their career and on top of that drugs/egos/whatever have NEVER stood in the way. On top of that, they still get along after all these years and Hail seriously is a killer record. IT stands on it's own very well. Why would they stop a good thing?

yeah, i was thinking about that while i was reading it.

dusty 07-26-2003 05:14 PM

radiohead is due for a break up. they had their time in the sun- now they just suck.

Tessellation 07-26-2003 09:04 PM

they'll hopefully go away for good. but maybe, by some miracle, they'll pull a Neil Young and finally release good material after years of releasing experimental rubbish, though...

I remember when they were describing HTTT as being "Smiths-like". I think someone should sue them for false advertising.

I wasn't comparing radiohead to the sp breakup..i just thought it was sort of a coincidence that they both expressed interest in EPs over LPs

smashingjj 07-28-2003 09:55 AM

well since everything seems to be going better than ever for them, I don't think they will break up.

jczeroman 07-28-2003 11:32 AM

1. Ok Computer
2. Kid A
3. Hail to the Thief

Radiohead will not break up. Mike is a pessimist.

The media thought a lot of Kid A. It went straight to number one.

I've talked to a lot of Radiohead fans/occasional listeners, and all of them have said they enjoy Hail to the theif just as much/almost as much/more than their previous records.

Their worst to date is still Pablo Honey.
