Cool.

Within a few weeks I should have a fully-functional NES PC, or as it has been dubbed by some, an UberNES.

Me too. I bought a used Dreamcast so I could play them on my tv in my room.
It's a hell of a lot better than spending the first 5 minutes hitting the power button over & over.

i played mario 2 a few weeks ago for the first time in ages

amazing game

I really don't miss having to blow on a cartridge to get it to work.

NegativeSleep 06-06-2003 01:35 PM

ROMs are equally cool in their own right. I suppose once I'm done I'll be using my new rig almost exclusively as an emulator.

Provided of course jamming a whole load of hardware into the tiny case doesn't cause it to overheat and explode, or otherwise catch fire in some way (like my ill-fated Atari back in '91 :( )

The cool thing is that the word has gotten out to all my peers about my nerd-dom & I have people I know coming up to me in the mall or restaurants asking me about how to get emulators working for their DC! I'm nerdifying my community, one young impressionable teen at a time!

Do they trade you burritos and chimichangas in exchange for that information?

Basically, in a nutshell, you use a program called Nero to burn yr roms/emulators onto a CD. You pop that CD into yr Dreamcast & then have at it. There's tales of these CDs wearing out the lasers in DCs, making them break down after X amount of time, but I've had mine for a while now, & the only reason I even bought my DC was for emulators, so that doesn't worry me.

You can get DC Emulators for tons of different systems, but I mostly use mine for my NES/SNES emulators.

hahaha NO. Although, funny enough, the last time someone came into a store to talk to me about it was when I was dining on foot long burritos with my boyfriend at a local mexican restaurant.

that is beautiful.

Its a shame the DC was abandoned. there are the coolest things for it in terms of software and hardware.
If only there was a working ps1 emulator for it and a full speed snes emu too. I recently bought a DC shell. it was supposed to be red, but it looks more like a fushia color.  I am looking into Gameboy advance emulation too.
