Netphoria, I need some advice.

This seems so stupid, but I'm just worrying myself stupid over it. First off, I've decided to transfer to a different school next spring, either UTA or Stephen F. Austin, I can't decide which right now (which is another problem I'll get into later) but here's the thing, I have 2 cats, one a 15yr old indoor cat who mostly just sleeps all the time, and a playful 2yr old, indoor/outdoor siamese who constantly wants attention and who kind of adopted us last winter. (He was a stray who started staying at our house)

Here's the problem, my mother is out of town every week on business... so she won't be there to watch Sinatra (the 2yr old siamese) except on weekends when she comes home... And it's just me and her, there's no one else to let him out, or feed him or anything.

So if I go off for school, I'll have to A. either leave Sinatra outside the whole week while she's out of town, which he'll freak out about or B. Give him away. Now I realize he's "just a cat" but he's my cat and he loves me and I can't bear to just give him away.

This is a stupid problem but I don't know what to do. I was planning on living in the dorms so I can't take him with me, if I get an apartment it will be stupid expensive to take him... blah.

What about a friend?

jczeroman 06-06-2003 10:23 AM

why not just execute them?

Human Replica Droid 06-06-2003 10:24 AM

I know how you feel.

I'd sooner stay home than give away my cat. Of course, I've had her for eight (people) years, so... I'm really attatched. She's my baby.

I don't know what to tell you.
Is there a trusted neighbor or friend you could give a key to and count on to feed him during the week?

I don't know anyone who would want the responsibility of going over there every day to feed the cats and let them out and all that stuff... that would get quite old quickly. hmm. My mom mentioned putting some food and water, the kind you get for vacations, the auto feeder ones, out in the garage and leave the door open for him to go in and out during the week. But that won't work during the winter, it would be too cold, he'd just have to stay in I guess. hmm.

Hey.

If you go to SFA (we've talked about this before, you should!), my girlfriend would likely take your cat for you. She LOVES cats, like, more than life itself. She had a cat a few months ago, but she had to put it to sleep because it had some major medical issues.

Anyway, email me at sppunk00@yahoo.com and fill me in on the details, and I'll get with her about it. Also, if you have any questions about the two schools (dad went to UTA, and I was going to), ask away.

By the way, if you need apartment advice, let me know. there are some apts. in town tht have a cheap pet deposit and are very favorable to having them. Rio del Orro is one of the best.

Just let me know.

Good idea.

I could take care of the cat.

You should go to SFA. The UT system exists only to make more money for UT-Austin. The branch schools stink.

Dawg, get yo' ass outta S.A. That place just be keepin' you down, down, down. Plus, I hate them for beating the Mavs.

How much school do you have left when you go back?

Two years. I'm pretty much stuck. My GPA is too low to transfer. And by the time I get it high enough, I'll be done.

Well... my boyfriend goes to UTA and loves it, so he's trying to get me to go there, and it was my first choice school before he even transferred there. He's there and it's only 5hrs away from my home town, not too far, but just far enough away. And SFA is 9hrs away from Lubbock... plus it's little and I've never been off away from home before. I don't know, it's just a bit daunting. Although SFA is more affordable and for some reason it's the school I'm leaning towards... hmm. I'm all confused I don't know which school to pick.

Hey sppunk, are you saying your gf would be willing to watch the cat... or..? Also, I was looking at the dorms, but would the apartments be a better choice? hmm.

The Pashing Smumpkin 06-06-2003 12:13 PM

Are you the only one occupying the dorm? Are they indoor cats? You could just keep them in the dorm all the time with you and kick them into the closet if suspicion is aroused. I mean, if Willow could get away with keeping Amy in her Dorm while she was in Uni, Im sure you can do the same!

Hey, I can't gurantee it or anything, but I'd imagine she'd let them stay at her apartment if you moved into the dorms and couldn't, that way it wouldn't be left outside and all alone for weeks.

As far as dorm v. apartment, that is the age-old debate. I hated dorms and loved my apartment. While apartments seem more expensive because of each months rent and all, they're about the same price as dorms if you break dorm costs down into months. Plus, SFA's dorms are pretty shitty on the most part.

hmm i really don't know what to tell you
i just couldn't give my pet away :(
