Yeah, I played around on Jitter today and with a guy more familiar with it, we made a ten minute demo with essentially four different effects, just applied with varying parameters and in several combinations. That right there is a good number of different "looks" - and we just scratched the surface with two hours of playing around.
Eventually, I'll have to look at them all and pick which one's we'll use for this music video I'm directing. This is all real-time, but I can't lug the workstation on set with me, so we'll edit the video first, then apply the effects.
My favorite so far is edge highlighting with superslow blur. The image takes forever to fade away (and rematerialize wherever you go), but you can see the edges of it moving naturally. It's like a ghost.
