quit talking to yourself 'cause no one said that and i don't even like basketball or any sport except gymnastics and figure skating. you think my being skeptical of a white woman accusing a black man of rape (the only allegation that dude ever had) has anything to do with his status?

you're the real racist, dawg.

FlamingGlobes 02-12-2020 01:04 PM

Yes, well, racism has been my brand since the beginning. Surprised it took (foolofa) you this long to notice.

Should we be comfortable denying something happened to a victim just because the accused is a beloved ball bouncer who is now dead? He can't be held accountable any longer because he's dead, etc. Obviously I get that. But we don't need to paper over somebody else's trauma just because we want to read celebrity gossip rags and not feel bad. Believe victims, right?

Believing victims means rape claims should be taken seriously and investigated the same way any criminal allegation might.
And that has already happened in this case. She was taken seriously and they went to court (the legal kind) over it.

That's an unfortunate byproduct of fame, dickbags will come out of the woodwork. But I wouldn't lay the blame of that at a public figure's feet unless they themselves instigated such actions.

:noway: Guys, please, you are missing what's important here:

I MADE A FRIEND AND WILL SOON MEET A WHOLE PLATOON OF CATS

yo soy el mejor 02-12-2020 01:17 PM

The following statement by Kobe Bryant was issued after sexual assault charges against him were dropped:

"First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman
involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this
year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only
imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to
her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and
supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo.

"I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives
of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has
agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil
case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was
consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this
incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery,
listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now
understand how she feels that she did not consent to this
encounter.

"I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of
this case ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil
case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be
decided by and between the parties directly involved in the
incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on
the citizens of the state of Colorado."

she actually did end up getting a bunch of money, though, and that's the way the cookie crumbles

I hate when I buy a bottle of barbecue sauce and it literally just tastes like ketchup with no smokey flavour.

FoolofaTook 02-12-2020 02:25 PM

So we have four ppl talking about bbq sauce, two about kobe, and me talking to myself about cats.

Great thread guys. Fuck this shit, I'm leaving the board again, this time for a whole month!

Oh hey, speaking of problematic dead black men and Sonic (how often I need to say that!), how do we feel being pretty sure that some of Michael Jackson's score made it into Sonic 3?

FoolofaTook 02-12-2020 03:41 PM

So you're just going to ignore the BBQ sauce?

I see how it is.

topleybird 02-12-2020 03:42 PM

Hey, I was getting there

Have to buy this shit in bulk because I drink a squeeze bottle a day, in defiance of the laws of God and man

topleybird 02-12-2020 03:44 PM

I feel like my childhood was raped!

Nah, not really. I'm fine. Sonic 3 soundtrack slams. But I would never deny his accusers.

topleybird 02-12-2020 03:51 PM

I have a really hard time separating the music from the man, and haven't listened to anything since it became clear he was a monster

But, I mean, I really miss that music

I don't think it's even out of respect for his accusers, who I of course believe, it's just… MJ was a big part of my childhood and I just feel weird about it all

topleybird 02-12-2020 03:54 PM

Anyway,

Yeah, I think it's easy enough for me because I didn't have the attachment to his music that you do. I mean, I liked some songs, but it's been easy to avoid most of it for the last two decades.

The Sonic 3 thing I can sort of compartmentalize because there's no vocals and the music is so processed that I'm pretty sure he composed it and someone else transferred it into MIDI form, or whatever. So there's a lot more distance there.

but you would trivialize rape by saying doltish things like, "I feel like my childhood was raped!" when talking about a video game soundtrack.

you would.
