Yeah episode 6 was awesome. It’s really picking up steam. Riker should appear next episode.

I think my favorite thing about Picard so far is that it carries the story forward while going to great lengths to honor the older series. The connections to old characters and tons and tons of easter egg references to old Trek make my heart happy, but it also avoids being blatant fan service.

like the magic gate thing that can send the borg queen 40k lightyears away was assimilated from a species Voyager encountered in the Delta Quadrant and there was an episode about them trying to use it

STOP FUCKING KILLING TNG SIDE CHARACTERS JESUS CHRIST

topleybird 03-06-2020 03:21 PM

I would just like to admit, in what I hope is a safe environment, that I knew Leah Brahms's name off the top of my head

This has been weighing on me for a couple days now and I feel it's best I be truthful

Looks like we're gearing up for Picard's crew, the Romulan fleet, and the Borg cube to show up at either the synth planet or the conclave of 8 at the end of the season. I read season 2 and 3 have already been green-lit and will be filmed together. It will be very interesting to see where they take the story next.

i like this series a lot. I want a Seven of Nine Borg Queen series next!

But I will settle for the upcoming Pike Enterprise series

redbreegull 03-23-2020 11:07 PM

I'm a bit disappointed that the Borg cube did not actually have any greater purpose. Seven took control only to have all/most of the un-reclaimed drones ejected into space, then she took the cube to the synth planet only to have it pulled down by a bunch of flowers

It just gets worse and worse. It's absolute garbage.

Really? This is probably the first overtly negative thing I have heard anybody say about the show

topleybird 03-25-2020 08:40 AM

You can now get a free month of CBS Whatever, if you use the promo code "GIFT" when you sign up, now through April 23

So there's no particular reason not to try the show, unless, like, nothing you've heard about it has interested you much

Kahlo 03-28-2020 02:43 PM

It's over, thank christ.

smashingjj 03-28-2020 06:58 PM

well, I sort of enjoyed it, but it was a very clear quest for nostalgia to me. you get to see some of the TNG crew members, Picard says 'make it so' a couple of times, the people get what they want.

but it wasn't great :/

redbreegull 03-28-2020 07:52 PM

The ending was the only part I really had an issue with. The last episode felt rushed because they tried to wrap up all the plot arcs neatly. I understand why the writers may have felt like they had to do this in case the show didn't get renewed, but I found it disappointing. I assume the second and third season will be an entirely different story.

ninsp 03-28-2020 08:34 PM

Show sucked.

i jjust finished my watchthrough of TNG and the 4 movies, i'm now watching episode 1 of PICARD!!! i am freaking pumped!!

Joey Goldberg 03-29-2020 10:34 AM

he just kept watching & watching in one long incredibly unbroken session moving from series to series so that no one had a chance to interrupt it was really quite hypnotic

wHATcOLOR 03-30-2020 04:09 AM

ok i just finished it and i gotta say i'm really pumped they made it.

here are my unsorted thoughts:

SPOILERS of course

- the theme music was WEAK SAUCE compared to TNG. come on man, how can people sing along to this? this gets no one's blood pumping. original all the way

- really liked the opening with picard not wanting the game to end, lingering in the moments with Data

- they used a pretty light touch with Data, only sprinkling him in here and there, but the ending especially i thought was beautiful and it was such a better way to say goodbye to him than the last movie

- it was jonesing for some more of the orignial cast, it wasn't until episode 7 until riker and troi were back. couldn't have been more pleased with those scenes/episodes though. i don't think they did 'nostalgia porn', they were fairly restrained

- in the last ep when picard died, i actually wasn't moved, and i'm not sure why.. honestly it could have been the fact that on this particular episode, and this one only, the streaming was interrupted several times by buffering, really weird, and maybe that's what took me out of it. but i don't think that was quite it.. the ep was kind of rushing around and that happened suddenly.. but the simulation with data and when Data he aged.. man that was legit

- there were various plot points that were annoying here and there, but.. i mean it's star trek and overall the quality was great

- kind of interesting, the contrast between modern, 10 episode television seasons with a big arc, vs. the 26 episode seasons of days past where the quality naturally wasn't as much there.. kind of cool to see the modern style imposed on the old franchise

- the scenes with original cast members back really made it for me and emphasized how excellent that original cast is.. you can do so much with so little, because of all the groundwork that has been laid... would have loved to see geordi and warf and crusher, etc..

- excited there will be a season 2. well done overall, my gripes are minor, especially since this was unexpected, and it was so nice to revisit spend time in a franchise that's been idle for 18 years, pretty special!

- OH! that scene when he first meets up with Raffi at her house.. the Vasquez Rocks... that's what it's really called, and i had my engagement photos taken there

ok that's my initial thoughts.

wHATcOLOR 03-30-2020 04:10 AM

also when that admiral said, "with all due respect, and at long last, shut the fuck up" --

Shadaloo 03-30-2020 10:42 PM

That final scene in the simulation choked me up

Mixed bag but definitely good overall

Kahlo 03-31-2020 11:24 AM

Dreadful writing, wooden and stilted acting. The Riker/ Trois episode was the worst for this. The music was saccharine and destroyed any sense of tension...not that there ever was much.

This got off to a good start in the first episode, but quickly descended into a predictable and uninspired plot with dull antagonists, and a crew (save for Rios) who I couldn't give less of a shit about.

JL JL JL JL JL JL JL

Garbage

haha that's pretty harsh man - are you a fan of TNG?

i fully agree with you on the JL stuff, that got obnoxious quickly

Kahlo 04-01-2020 05:09 AM

I loved TNG. I went back and watched a few seasons (wow - Season 1 wasn't great, huh?) but enjoyed revisiting a lot of those stories. Picard feels extremely loosely connected to that series in terms of quality.

Believe me, I wanted to love Picard, but it felt like it was written, directed and acted entirely by robots...which on reflection ...OH MY GOD ITS GENIUS.

redbreegull 04-01-2020 01:54 PM

I guess I don't totally understand that level of criticism because I also love TNG, but TNG is fantastically uneven. There are episodes that are sublime, and also plenty that are difficult to sit through.

topleybird 04-01-2020 05:06 PM

Hey, put together some thoughts on the series here, too long to summarize for the board

I agree with you, but they aren't all part of a longer story arc. This is where Picard failed for me - it was a dull story, badly told.

Apparently there will be a Season 2. Join Picard as he boldy goes to the toilet 15 times an episode, meets Geordi and a few other pals along the way, and has an encounter with his greatest enemy: time. Will the dialysis machine save him?
