safe spaces in universities
weigh in with your terrible opinions about them, in here*
*this is not a safe space |
fuzzy to thread
|
Oh, right.
|
this is a fuzzy-safe space
|
There are roes and roes of safe spaces here.
|
A safe space is good for those you need them, and needn't concern those who don't? idk
I didn't have the option when I was in college, so I just did a lot of drugs. A safe place is probably a healthier option than that, right? People have problems and people have coping mechanisms. There will always be proponents and haters of all of them. This won't even be a hot topic in the next decade, so ultimately who cares? People should just be respectful of life's difficulties regardless of what "space" they are in, but that's a different (worse) point. |
Uh what is this
|
there are no safe spaces when you carry the seeds of Satan in your dark heart

I don't know what a "safe space" is. It doesn't seem to have a clear definition or meaning. It just seems to be a term invoked by people when signaling which side of the culture war they fall on.
I think that everywhere people exist should be safe, yes. As in, free from hazards that could cause preventable and forseeable dangers to health. Campuses should be no different. There should be fire extinguishers and fire exits and shit. |
yes. and loaded bongs within 20 feet of every/any wheres
|
I feel like railing against "safe spaces" at schools is basically the 21st century version of claiming universities are turning kids into marxists
|
People are currently claiming that universities are turning kids into Marxists
|
That explains all the Che Guevara shirts.
|
Yeah I feel like it’s such a non invasive, cheap thing to do, it surprises me that people would feel so strongly about it.
A couple of my FB friends are apparently anti-safe spaces at university because although it might be beneficial to some students, it might harm others by making them too sensitive and prone to mental illness |
yeah it is tolerance and acceptance that fucks with ppls minds, not hatred and cruelty
|
safe spaces for what though, is the rest of the uni not safe?
|
i dunno but it's not a safe space for me unless it has mango smoothies, bean bags, and gravity bongs.
|
It's not safe for me to use gravity bongs as intended
Last time I did that I was coughing out my lungs for about half an hour on my friend's front porch in the early hours of the morning, waking up all of the neighbours |
really? the whole point of the water is to cool the smoke and make it easier on your lungs.
interesting. |
well maybe more throat than lungs.

by the way I still don't really understand what we are talking about in this thread. Are we talking about making campuses a safe space, meaning being intolerant of right wing racist free speechers, or are we talking about creating specific safe spaces on campus for people with specific sensitivities?
At my school there was a "safe hallway," on the bottom floor of one of the dorms (not sure what they actually called it) where basically one could live where alcohol, drugs, loud noise, sex, etc. were not allowed. It was in the all-female dorm. I'm not sure if men could live in the safe hallway or not. |
University is a place to find yourself but also a place of protest and having to come to terms with reality.
It’s overwhelming I have no issues with safe spaces on universities Edgelords love to be edgy |
well looks like I made an ass out of u and me because I assumed that a safe space was one where you could go if you needed some time out.
the one mentioned to me was mocked for having videos of puppies, bubbles and adult colouring books. it was said that offering a space like this was infantilising people and caused more mental health issues in the long run because it amplified fear and enabled avoidance. I don't know how essential any of those individual components are to a safe space. I imagined it as a quiet room with comfortable chairs where if you needed some time to process something, without anyone talking to you or demanding that you explain yourself, you could go in there and just chill out for half an hour, or whatever. |
