how many hours of sleep do you get?

I will accept both real and fake answers.

I'm getting 5 hours, sometimes 6, per night. I feel like I can't function, like this. But should I harden up? Maybe it's possible.

Disco King 11-12-2018 09:04 PM

I usually get 4-6 hours.

comma renegade sighting: confirmed

redbreegull 11-12-2018 09:32 PM

I get an average of 5-6 going back probably 15+ years at this point. I wonder if sleep deprivation negatively affected my brain development during adolescence

IT"S IS RENEGADE COMMA SIGHTING

GODDAMN

vixnix 11-12-2018 09:37 PM

maybe it's the combination of no sleep, and parenting a teenage boy, that makes it feel unmanageable

I expect him to be smarter than he was last year, when he was 12. especially because he has size 15 feet, is taller than me, and his voice has dropped

but somehow, he's stupider than he was this time last year

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 09:43 PM

yes but when the comma renegade drops a comma in a renegadish fashion, what is that comma called?

answer me that, if you can.

Becoming stupider in your teenage years is probably normal. Those hormones affecting risk-assessment faculties and all that.

I'm making shit up that sounds scientific.

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 09:57 PM

size fifteen feet? is your son an ent?

a lot of people do say this.... I guess I thought it wouldn't happen to my own son because I put in so much effort for him to not be normal

but now, here we are, despite my terrible influence, he is apparently normal.

teenage boys have been my sworn enemies for....all of my life, pretty much. My husband this morning blamed my high school yet again for filling my head with feminist propaganda. I went to an all girls government high school, two blocks away from the first parliament in the world to grant women the vote, in 1893. So you had better believe we were force fed information about how men had us in corsets and married off at 14, and how women starved themselves to death and threw themselves in front of racehorses because men were terrible, beating us up, spending their paycheques on alcohol, etc. and the sacrifices of our suffragette sisters meant that we could now be part of the political process, so that all women can be free of the tyranny of patriarchy

My husband this morning asked me if we were ever told about the virtues of men and my honest response was "What virtues?" and he was like "Yeah, exactly."

I have been unimpressed with 13/14 year old teenage boys my whole life and I don't know how to turn this around.

I guess...he does offer to carry the groceries for me. Gotta focus on those positives

Eulogy 11-12-2018 11:05 PM

Like 6. It is definitely not enough.

he is tall, but his feet are unusually big - it runs in the family.

My husband is a size 14, so my son was fitted with bigger shoes than my husband, for the first time, back in August, shortly after his 13th birthday. That's a weird feeling.

He's still shorter than my husband though.

my sleep deprivation then was more episodic. so I would get 7-8 hours a few nights a week, 4 hours on other nights, 0 hours some nights...I can't say for sure wha my average was, except that like you, I'm sure I was sleep deprived...

I need more of those 9 hour nights...I get one longer sleep every week, because I don't need to get up for anything early, on a Sunday. But I am still woken by 8:00am most weeks, and I often stay up later on a Saturday, so it only ends up being 7 hours. It's not enough...

Yeah, not enough for me, either.

seems like it is pretty common, then. I feel fucking wrecked, most of the time.

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 11:13 PM

sorry i missed you out dk. I'm surprised by this because you seem so 'with it' all of the time, and my impression of most people who get this amount of sleep is that they are kind of falling apart...

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 11:13 PM

can't you ever get like 7-8 on the weekends?

you're lik 6'6 aren't you? how big are your feet? they must be at least 12s or something, surely...

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 11:15 PM

nope 11 or 11 & 1/2 depending on the shoes.

some sundays I can - it depends on the kids. if they wake me up for something, I usually can't get back to sleep, so I just get up. That might change when we go back to NZ if we manage to become regulars at church, again (we were, until we moved here).

Saturdays are sport days and they can be the worst - if a game starts at 8:00 and they have to be there at 7:30, and it's a 30 minute drive away, AND they need to eat a big breakfast and have time to digest it, I need to be up at 5:30am. It's nuts.

huh no way. I would have expected them to be bigger...but still, that's not tiny, that's probably still bigger than average.

probably bigger than most of the guys at netpho

i'm out on a limb here

making wild predictions unsupported by any evidence

i might as well be a teenage boy

Run To Me 11-12-2018 11:20 PM

Can’t decide whether i wanna chime in re sleep feet or sons

FoolofaTook 11-12-2018 11:20 PM

wow. getting up at 530 on the weekend. that's rough. i don't think i would make a very good mother.

at least you are nearing the finish line, right? i mean once they're off to college it should be smooth sailing.

tis all relative. i'm afraid i have small feet for being almost two meters. and really elongated limbs. and a massive head on small slumped shoulders. it's just all hopeless, really.
