does anyone else crave shrimp all the time?

I do.

And I know they're bottom feeders.

My main crave food is shrimp tacos with salsa.

The craving is stronger than cigarettes which I gave up 8 months ago.

I generally crave fish a lot.

Do I have a deficiency, or am I perhaps a reincarnated seagull?

Anyone here in the nutrition/health field have any idea? It actually interrupts my day that is how much I think about it.

now i want shrimp

MplsTaper 10-19-2018 01:34 PM

I'm not a big seafood person but my favorite place to partake is New Orleans.

pale_princess 10-19-2018 01:35 PM

I had the best shrimp pasta of my life in NOLA

vixnix 10-19-2018 01:51 PM

I saw that photo of shrimp next to cockroaches and now I actually find it pretty hard to enjoy them.

I did enjoy some cereal prawns a few months back, they were shelled before they were breaded. I hate having to rip their bodies and legs off. So these ones were easy to eat. But I ate them at a fancy restaurant here and they were live prawns, killed during cooking, and everything tastes stale now :(

And I feel like a monster for enjoying it. :(

Why did you make me rememberrrrrrrr nooooo damn you and your crustacean cravings

Please allow me to talk about New Orleans Style Barbecue Shrimp. This is unlike what most people consider traditional "BBQ sauces". It usually contains butter, garlic, olive oil, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, Louisiana style hot sauce (one of my favorites), salt and some lemon. Maybe some white wine and other spices depending on where you go. Liuzza's by the Track is well known for it so I went there to try it for the first time. FFS so good!

They serve it Po'Boy style except they hollow out a fresh baguette and stuff it full of BBQ shrimp. When you think you're done you're not because shrimp just keep falling out of the baguette and you have that insanely good bread to soak up all of the delicious sauce.

holy fuck that sounds good

i don't crave them, but i do like them. they MUST be de-"veined", though, because if i see even one poop chute on my plate i can't eat any more. i even check under the breading, if they've been fried. i like coconut shrimp and grilled shrimp quite a lot.

i like crab better though =x

Some of the best shrimp and fish tacos I've ever had were in Mexico and Southern California which probably sounds obvious.

The shrimp trucks (think food truck) on the north shore of Oahu blew my mind. My sister lives there but it's an expensive trip so I've been twice in 11+ years.

You know what else is good and can be prepared several ways? Crawfish.

Elphenor 10-19-2018 02:28 PM

fuck yeah southern cali shrimp tacos

Tex Mex is good too but not when it comes to seafood tacos usually

except in Dallas I had Octopus taco and as wrong as that may be, it was very very good

redbreegull 10-19-2018 02:33 PM

I have had seafood tacos in DC which were as good as anything I have had on the West Coast. Sorry, West Coast.

Elphenor 10-19-2018 02:34 PM

Wish I knew about this before I was in New Orleans last. This is going on the pros list for sure

MplsTaper 10-19-2018 03:07 PM

When I was in Dallas I didn't have any seafood but I had amazing tacos at; Tacos La Banqueta Puro DF, Taqueria Pinocho, Trompo, El Come Taco, El Tiz Tizoncito and El Atoron. Actually, one of those was on the list but closed and I don't remember which one. Also went to Louie's for tavern style pizza and Tutta's for smoked meat on pizza. A couple of amazing open pit BBQ places as well. Lots of cool bars in Dallas. Lee Harvey's is the spot. I hear Houston is the place for "Tex Mex" but I've never been.

Tyler, I think it's time I finally made that New Orleans thread.

Alice 10-19-2018 03:15 PM

Yes please make that thread. I will gladly participate

You're like a living guide book to many (all?) major American cities. It's pretty impressive

el pulpo (octopus) was right across the street from taqueria tepatitlan in oak cliff when i lived there. it's been gentrified since so things may have changed. white peeps love "street tacos" but i don't know about octopus.

v good stuff. and on certain nights the latter would have spanish karaoke.

Alice 10-19-2018 08:01 PM

You should all stop eating octopus. They're too cute to eat. Ducks too

Alice 10-19-2018 08:02 PM

Nobody mention duck rape ok it's not their fault. They're just ducks you know?

Elphenor 10-19-2018 08:15 PM

not to eat

ducks are friends

Alice 10-19-2018 08:19 PM

yo soy el mejor 10-19-2018 08:19 PM
