Vegan thread
So I'm vegan now
Please either help me with guidance and support, or stop killing animals and harvesting their products so that it's easier for me to find vegan shit |
Speaking of vegan shit, my bowel movements have taken a turn for the worse
Which is really saying something |

vegan pro tip: don't go out

this is the thread I would have made in 1996, as a 16 year old, when I went vegan.
good luck. |
I hope none of the furniture you are enjoying is put together with hide glue.

It's so funny to see people trying to point the contradictions in vegans
Like if people cared about contradictions elsewhere... |
As an ex-vegan it just makes me roll my eyes when people become vegans in later life.
I mean what, you ignored all of this stuff until now, and then suddenly started caring? And now you've made the change and it isn't enough just to change...you have to tell everyone about it? Seems kinda fishy to me |
As an ex-vegan everything you say about the subject sounds kind of fishy, no pun intended.
|
You animal.

I've been a low-commitment vegan for years. When I went out to eat, I'd only get something with meat or animal products in it say, once out of every ten meals. And it's funny how people complain about people talking about veganism. Recently I went to dinner with a group of people, and I got a vegan meal, and someone asked what it was, when I told them what it was, they said it sounds like the menu item for picky bitches that don't want anything in their food. Like, remind me again which group of people are known for shoving their ideas down other's throats, vegans or non-vegans? |
Boy, you vegans are narky motherfuckers.

Also, I'm sure you know (and if you don't, then I hate to be the one to break it to you) but most regular cafes that claim some of their meals are vegan are not being legit. You're welcome. |

But it wasn't that hard. I didn't have a lot of cooked meals after that, though. I ate a lot of pita bread and canned beans and bulgur wheat, and salad. And tofu. And porridge. |

I do hope to eventually improve my general diet and cooking habits to incorporate fresh produce more, but I'm talking about stuff that isn't food. Like, it's so hard to find stuff like shower gel or shampoo that makes itself known to be vegan. And I'm already well acquainted with restaurants and cafes not having even a single vegan menu item, and having to ask to replace shit or not in For some reason the gluten free and organic trends are more prevalent and accomodated for than veganism, even though people's reasoning behind consuming gluten free and organic shit is most times uninformed at best. I keep getting blank stares everywhere I go from food industry people who would normally find themselves under fire if they served a trace of something to someone with an allergy. |
Not that hard - we used to get a lot of stuff from the Body Shop. A lot of Dr. Hauschka and Weleda stuff is vegan.
You just get used to shopping in different places. It's easier than ever now, with internet shopping. |
Thanks for telling everyone you are a vegan. That's the most important part of your new lifestyle.
|
It was easier to just stick to cafes that were known to have vegan options. Or your can always ask for a salad.
I would avoid Asian restaurants though, unless they have a particular vegan approach. In my experience a lot of vegetarian/vegan dishes are made with oyster sauce, fish sauce or shrimp paste, etc. I guess it was an easier stage of life to be vegan, because I was a student and we were all broke anyway, and hardly ever ate out. Most NZ style cafes are pretty accommodating if they're not too busy, and you're amiable when you ask. I used to eat a lot of mushrooms sautéed in olive oil and garlic, on whole grain toast, with some green leaves at the side. Most places are pretty happy to slap something like that together. But back then most of the hipster places would have one or two vegan options on the menu and up at the counter. My favourite cafe in Wellington, Fidel's (now utterly ruined by the pack of capitalistic hipster bastards that congregate there) used to make these vegan banana and chocolate chunk muffins. I think they used the Whittaker's dark block. I dunno. It wasn't that hard. It usually wouldn't even come up. Which is why threads like this make me a bit eye roll-y |

Fuck me for wanting to discuss a major change in my life on a general discussion forum, right? |
It must be animal products that grant one the ability to see things coming.

Thanks for being less of a smug fuck than what most non vegans think vegans are
