This was a super popular VHS series in Canada. Don Cherry, the host of the video is seen as a national treasure in Canada. There's few (if any) public figures who are more nationally celebrated than him.

Man, watching this now, you really realize how much better hockey used to be. I understand that you have to be cognizant about the players health, but there was nothing like watching guys smash the crap outta each other on a big sheet of ice.

This movie here has aged awesomely. So perfectly 80's/early 90's with the editing and music.

I dare you to watch this and not enjoy it.

It's worth noting that this was the biggest selling video series in Canada. Don Cherry literally made close to 30 of them. They really were a cultural phenomenon. I think he's made them up to even a few years ago on DVD.

that guy at 23 minutes is trying to fucking murder people. i like hockey a little rough but that shit is assault, it's not in service of getting the puck, it's in service of knocking the guy out of the play or even the game and that is fucked up shit

Man, that shit was tame compared to the late 90's and 2000's.

Todd Bertuzzi ended this guys career with that cheap shot. You can see the full close-up of it at the 1:32 mark. Bertuzzi sucker punches him from behind and smashes his face straight into the ice.

you can see the difference between hard hits and shit like elbows, clotheslines, and pure aggression not in service of the play. some of each in that video.

i went to a fair amount of hockey games in the late 90s... fights are exciting at the game. but not when someone gets actually hurt. it's should just for psychological control of the game, e.g. your team wins the fight and even though both dudes are out for 5 minutes, there's a pep in your step

I don't like videos of beatings, drug use, or the mistreatment of animals.
